The story =
A story about Uma Lengo, a dumb outcast in Wangdue, who won the heart of a beautiful mermaid. He was completely short of speech, yet many people were friendly and kind to him. He roamed the Wangdue town and begged for food and little things before going back to his love, the beautiful mermaid. He lived alone on the bank of the deep, truquoise Dangchhu. He made shelter out of brnces, cardboard and rags, and called it his home. Wangdue people told numberous stories about the Lengo's curious relationship with mermaid of Dangchhu. One story went that every night, the mermaid would come out of the calm waters and embrace the Lengo affectionately as if he was a long-lost lover. In return, he would whisper to her the depth of his feeling for her.
It was believed that the mermaid provided him fish from the river occasionally. This mermaide, a veritable angel to a dumb outcast, was believed to have shed copious tears when the Lengo's little home was ravaged by a fire. Therefore, he slept in the bushes. The cold wind from the river froze him to the bone, but he never left the river bank, all for love of the mermaid. Gradually, the vagaries of weather took their toll on him. He became weak and sick.......One night, a snake slid into his bushy bed and bit him in a calf. He was taken to a nearby clinic, but to no avial. One could imagine how devastated the mermaid must have felt at the death of her human lover.
