The more you learn about her life, especially as a teen and young adult during WWII then becoming an accidental monarch as the men ahead in the line went other directions, the more you admire and respect her. She embodied the values in action we refer to in America as belonging to 'the greatest generation.' Simply a smart, quietly hard working woman who never thought twice about her duty to serve. A valuable contrast to contemporary culture!

@@NifftyMelinoë Not sure what you mean by "the men ahead in the line went other directions." There were no men ahead of her in the line: that's how she became monarch. Edward VIII never had any children so, even if he hadn't abdicated, he would still have been succeeded by his oldest brother, George VI, except that Edward outlived George by 20 years so, instead, the crown would pass to George's heir. Since he had no sons, that would be his oldest daughter, Elizabeth. From the moment that George V died, Elizabeth was always going to be queen, unless Edward VIII had children or George VI had a son.

The conservatives conventions over the last decades are the ones who were not boring beacuse they were full of NAZIS and white supremacist. But Party conventions through history have always been boring. This Democratic Party convention is out of the ordinary for obvious reasons. No it's not due to misogyny which is actually not a big thing in America despite what you say, but it was to lay the groundwork for Harris speech to tell her story. I think the reason we haven't had a women president is not due to misogyny but centrist difficulty with change. UK population = 67 million and not all think alike. There are people that love the monarchy, or some of them, and there are people that would not be sorry to see it go. The majority are probably not too bothered either way. The end of empire had very little to do with the monarchy or attitudes to the monarchy. It's a complex subject and can't be boiled down to a single sentence with any accuracy. The UK is, and has been for a long time, a constitutional monarchy. Like Belgium, Cambodia, Jordan, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Thailand. The main power of the monarch is the power that he or she denies to others. The true political power resides in the elected parliament. In fact, I'd argue a US President is closer to an 'old school' monarch than constitutional monarchs are in terms of the power they have. The president has the power of executive orders and can take the country to war, so long as it's not called a war of course. Congress holds the power of declaring war, but to get around that you have police actions, interventions etc and simply don't declare war. Although congress does control the purse strings. The last time the US declared war was 1942 against Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. The last time a UK monarch had that kind of power was a long time ago. Look up The 1628 Petition Of Right. The monarch's power has been massively reduced from what it once was. There are countries that have presidents with power, and others where the president is more like an elected constitutional monarch. e.g. compare France and Germany. Unfortunately much of the national history we are taught, and colors our view of the world, is mythology. mostly distorted, often just made up. That applies to all nations.

Vance is weird? They should show the video of Walz's police running down the street shooting paintballs at people "violating" curfew by sitting on their own porch. The Democrats want to install a police state in this country.

Its so pathetic how Times Radio parrots the US main stream talking points such as JD Vance being weird. He is no more weird than theDemocratic Party which advocates abortion up to term; or, that a man can play in women’s sports because they ‘identify’ as such; etc…Its bonkers
