Hey, Murph…. Sent you a message on the Gibson forum but I see you’ve not been around for awhile. The executive summary is my lone remaining aunt mentioned in passing that her mother (my dad’s mother) once mentioned to her she was a distant relative of the Shelton brothers. I’m trying to track down just what the relationship is. Thought you’d get a kick out of that, since you’re the one who hipped me to the whole Shelton-Birger feud….

@@dhanners623 Very cool, David. I love history, especially when it's local stuff. The Gibson forum has become a shithole whereas certain members (who don't even like the brand) are allowed to insult other members without consequence. I've been a Gibson owner and enthusiast for over 50 years and was a member there for nearly 2 decades, but it appears to be operated by children the last few years. I was given some type of demotion point by an unknown mod with zero explanation. I've not been back for a while. I always appreciate your original songs, David. You're a great writer.

@@bendummitt888 Yeah, I’ve noticed that myself. It always struck me as odd that a guy who doesn’t own or play Gibsons - and never really has anything good to say about them - hangs around the forum. My guess it is probably a sign of bigger issues in his life, but it certainly tests my patience. And yeah, the moderating seems arbitrary and capricious. I was a member of another guitar forum (The Cafe on The Soundhole) but some time ago it became about 80 percent politics and while I enjoy a spirited political discussion, there were three guys that just made the place intolerable for me. I’ve got a thick skin, but life is too short to have strangers treat you like they do. Adding to it, they were insufferable know-it-alls who were certain the rest of us were stupid. I went there for fun and entertainment, but it stopped being fun and entertaining. One of the guys would be given 30-day suspensions from time to time, but he always came back and never seemed to learn. He ran off a lot of good people.
Thanks for the kind words. Love your stuff I’ve heard, too. Gritty and real and falls into the, “Damn, I wish I’d written that” category.
I’ve got someone who says they can check my family tree (they know what they’re doing on the genealogy websites; I don’t) and I’ll keep you posted if they come up with a Shelton connection. You can always email me if you need to get in touch.
