  • Within our solar system, there are a number of planets that are way more difficult to explore due to reasons like extreme temperatures (Mercury & Venus), and being billion and billion of miles away from earth (Uranus, Neptune). But over the years with advanced technology, learning about these planets has become a reality. Just what have we learned about these planets so far?
    ---
    Zenith explores the different aspects of space, including the planets, the technologies for us to explore the planets, and the future of space exploration.

    Maybe I'm being a little picky, but doesn't the title talk about discoveries on Neptune and Uranus made by Voyager? I don't mind learning about Mercury and Venus, but it took over half the video to get to Voyager. I think the video is misnamed.

    • @h.dejong2531
      @h.dejong2531 Pƙed rokem

      @@albertchehade9916 No. The person who discovers a planet gets to choose the name for it (usually). William Herschel discovered Uranus. His choice for a name was an exception to the naming rule. He proposed 'Georgium Sidus (George's Star)' after the British king George, which the astronomical community didn't like, because it's inconsistent with the names of the other planets (which are derived from Greek and Roman mythology) and because you shouldn't name a planet "star". A german astronomer proposed the name Uranus, and that stuck.

      They learned from each failure, so it's not surprising the success rate went up rapidly. And the Apollo program wasn't exactly "without a hitch". Apollo 1: fire in the capsule during ground test, 3 astronauts dead. Apollo 12: lightning strike just after liftoff disables most systems in the command module, only quick thinking by Mission Control enables the astronauts to recover the mission - they were minutes away from aborting the mission. Apollo 13: a design flaw causes an explosion in one of the oxygen tanks of the Service Module, getting close to killing 3 astronauts. They used several Rube Goldberg solutions to keep the astronauts alive.
