I knew a man without any experience whatsoever in the catering industry, and he bought a very nice restaurant for £300,000. I pointed out to him that he would need to pay for experienced staff, as he knew nothing about running a restaurant. He said that wouldn't be necessary. He went bankrupt 11 months later.

The max that small claims courts allows in Judge Judy's state (California) is 5,000. That's why judge judy asked him why are you suing ... you can get more from her outside of court.
