      @@iykeharrison9161it could have been dismissed without prejudice, which means no verdict here, but they can go to a different court where if found at fault the defendant would have to pay herself. Here the show pays the verdict. He basically said "i came here so i can at least get 5000$ from you because i know i'll never get anything from her since she doesn't have it". Usually people aren't honest about it and make up a scheme but he was honest and JJ found in his favor.

    Another example of a plaintiff who isn't greedy. I think he's a decent person and he definitely didn't sound money hungry. He just said, "look, I'm tired of this, and I want to put it behind me." Sounds fair and decent to me.

      The program pays the verdict to the one[s] who win, plus their appearance payment [about $50.00],food, and hotel stay for one night. The one that needs to pay has to pay the verdict to the program, minus their appearance payment [about $50.00]. They all sign papers for that purpose.

      We lost a TON of restaurants and it was like it happened overnight. Even the Golf and Country Club restaurants that were expensive but had the best food just went kaput. Now all there are, are the crap junk food places like Olive Garden, Popeye's, Texas roadhouse, etc...junk food, fat havens. I miss a restaurant with a decent salad without a ton of gunk in them like cheese, and other fattening items and a river of dressing.

    Still owed 50 grand and is willing to settle for 5 thousand, that’s pretty generous of plaintiff and pretty stupid of defendant not to take that offer. She thought that she had some kinda fraud case against plaintiff when really she was the fraudster !

    Plaintiff was lovely. He didn't want to put anymore pressure on himself or see her homeless. He didn't get annoyed or raise his voice or get angry with the defendant even though he is down a lot of money. Seriously decent human being.

      People seem to think that opening a restaurant is an easy way to make a lot of money quickly. I knew a man without any experience whatsoever in the catering industry, and he bought a very nice restaurant for £300,000. I pointed out to him that he would need to pay for experienced staff, as he knew nothing about running a restaurant. He said that wouldn't be necessary. He went bankrupt 11 months later.

      @@Challenger2A7 A friend keeps getting fired from jobs and has schizophernia. He got 500k as inheritence when father passed.
      he was thinking of getting a mcdonalds chain. I told him thats not a good idea you have no manager experience or any idea how to run a business. Its a huge risk to dump money into that.
      He didn't do that.

    If he owe back taxes on the restaurant, it wouldn’t matter if you own the restaurant, he was still owed the back taxes under his name you had to do was show that you purchased the property and they would’ve gone after him for now that he should be fleshed with some money if he gave you gave him 15,000 as the down and shit would’ve been actually in the should’ve been in the paperwork in escrow and it kind of sounds like she didn’t know how to run a business I think she just saw that he owned something and it was cheap and she thought she might make a couple dollars maybe just revamp the menu and some of the food offerings and you know just a general revamp of the restaurant to bring a new customers and offer some different taste for the old ones

    More new restaurants will fail within the first 5 years than new marriages. Both of these people learned the hard way. One must live, eat and breath the business for little money for a long time to make it successful. Hats off to those who did succeed. Otherwise, there would be no places to go and eat.

Teasing the plaintiff about paying too much for the business and eventually seeing the writing on the wall wasn't done to be snide towards him. It was done to establish that when you buy a business yit doesn't work out, that's tough titty said the kitty for you.

      The max that small claims courts allows in Judge Judy's state (California) is 5,000. That's why judge judy asked him why are you suing ... you can get more from her outside of court.

      @@Lommy9999 The court TV shows are awarding up to $10,000 now. California small claims court awards up to $12, 500 now except for businesses in which case it is 1/2 that amount, max. However, at the time of filming JJ show the show awarded $5,000 max.
