- So we were meant to be visiting a Christmas market in this Vlog, but as we learned the day before, the Netherlands have their markets in late December.
So we had a choice to make, stay in Rotterdam or take the excursion to Amsterdam, and as by the title you can see we did the latter.
We didn't have any real plans of what to see or do once in Amsterdam, so we just went with the flow. But we did know we wanted some stroopwafels and some of their famous frites.
We let you know if we think the trip is worth the money or not

Loved Amsterdam when I went, loved all the quirky buildings, hot chocolate and apple pie.
Enjoyed the visit to Amsterdam, with you Stacey and Kev. It never occurred to me you didn't have internet on these cruises. Love the beautiful architecture and houses there along the canals. Always wanted to visit. McDonalds over there has curry sauce? Lovely boat tour though the canals. Such a quick trip but I still think it would be worth it to see! Thanks so much for bringing us along.
Hi Dave and Kathy hope you're both well. And Internet is available but at extortionate prices. We usually go without till we get off the ship. To be fair it does us good to have a break from it lol 😆 😍
Good morning. Like you I try and plan when going to a new port. Checking ship excursions and private or small groups. Usually less expensive than the ship's price for the same thing. If it's a short port day or might take a while to get where we want to go, then it's a ship tour because then the ship waits for you. Thank you again for taking us along.
Yes it's definitely worth checking out different Excursion companies and not just the ones through the cruise line. They tend to charge alot more

Hey Terry thanks so much and Happy New Year to you and your family. We're really glad we went to Amsterdam but just bare in mind you could be abit pushed for time especially if the trip is for 6 and not 8 hours like we had. Really fun place to go though 😁

Got off this cruise Friday We had fantastic weather ,very smooth sailing every day .Didn’t book any trips just used shuttles into towns or just walked off ship where we could

Glad you had a great time. And yes that's the good thing , you don't have to do any excursions if you don't want. Unless it's something we really want to do we tend to just go around at our leisure in the ports the ship docks

Been to Amsterdam think it’s beautiful place. Went to Keukenhof gardens as well, stunning. Hasten to add not from a cruise ship. There apple pie is to die for.

Hi Guys. Me and my husband did this exact trip a couple of weeks ago. We was on P&O Iona for the Northern Europe Xmas markets. Caught the 'fast train' from Rotterdam into Amsterdam central and it was around 80 Euro each. Very expensive. Visited Amsterdam in 2014 and it was much better back then.
Anyway, we are very similar to you both, love cruises but love the visiting places much more. Looking into MSC for our next cruise.
€80 each wow that's expensive 😳 am sure you would like an MSC cruise especially when they offer such good deals price wise. And yeah we love the ships we go on but most importantly it's the places we will be visiting 😁

Hi fellow Starbucks mug collectors. My latest was a Canaries one while on the Virtuosa and we also stopped at Vigo. I walked about 3 miles uphill to the Starbucks hoping for a Vigo one. Nope, only Spain 😞 what a disappointment lol. Love your cruise vids btw

I agree, if I wanted a marathon around Amsterdam I would had ran there and had more time.
We had just under 3 hours there , considering the ship didn’t leave for 6 hours after returning I found it strange, take the train and enjoy the day there
We found out from other passengers that the extra 2 hours we had was because msc are trying to improve the service and give you longer In Amsterdam as 6 hours wasn't enough, so you would hope the extra 2 hours is added on all the time now. It should be for the price they charge lol. And yeah thats terrible they had you back so early when the ship didn't leave for hours after!

Did the Amsterdam excursion a week later than your cruise. We booked the Anne Frank House visit a month in advance, from the UK. The coach took over an hour & half to get to Amsterdam, after leaving an hour late, due to a delay docking in Rotterdam. Just about managed to do the Anne Frank House tour and grab a sandwich, before returning back. Personally i wouldn't recommend this expensive excursion, for the few hours you might potentially get.
Gosh no that is pushing it with time, ate you glad you did Anne Frank's house though? Would you recommend?
@@OneCouplesAdventure Anne Franks House tour is highly recommended. It brings home, that what we take for granted every day, we should be truly grateful for. There is an additional intro tour, which we did also. That's a must. It adds context to the house tour and gives an exclusive view of the annex, where Anne lived.

My last trip was 6 cities Netherlands and 2 cities Belgium (Brugge and Ghent). Could live in Brugge. Loved Amsterdam but scared me to death because of the bikes.

What time did you sail out of Rotterdam? This may have something to do with the 2 extra hours.
It was 8pm if i remember correctly. Some people on the cruise were told msc added the extra 2 hours on because of feedback they had and tried to improve the excursion

We booked it on the ship the day before we went as they had a black Friday sale on so the excursion was cheaper than normal
