  • A society's sexuality is the single most indicative marker of civilizational health - a reality first discovered by anthropologist JD Unwin in his book Sex & Culture, and later detailed by scholar Camille Paglia in her book Sexual Personae

      I imagine she has tenure somewhere or a literary agent who took her aside and told her to shut up or there would be consequences.

    Camille Paglia is so refreshing, if only more feminists could discover this source of wisdom.

      People who call themselves feminist today are usually not feminists. Don't use that term in them the same way liberal shouldn't be used to describe the left. There's nothing liberal about woke.

    Camille is actually a true traditional feminist (in a positive way) - more young women should listen to what she has to say.

      She is one of those people, that even though I disagree with much of what she says, I still find fascinating and compelling. Christopher Hitchens was, for me, also one of those people.

    Why you should be worried:
    Name ONE culture that managed to pull itself out of collapse?

      But it's sort of hard to identify a collapse that didn't materialize, in hindsight, no?

    A feminist if you can truly call her that, that did her scholarly digging and intellectual work who came to her senses. Maybe because shes got a more masculine temperament she can think use reason, logic and have a amoral compass to dissect philosophical dilemmas. This is rare for a woman to do without bias, unabashed empathy or raw emotion.

      @Eldritch777 Před 11 měsíci

      Framing this as a masculine vs feminine thing makes it seem as though you have contempt for femininity. Paglia is a lesbian who has sometimes identified as bisexual throughout the years but she ultimately can't fall in love with men, and has stated that she's never once identified as a woman. Her work was mostly inspired by the fact that in the past she never felt she fit in with others and has referred to herself in at least a few interviews as a mutant. Would you really prefer for most women to be like that?

      I would be interested to hear Camille respond to this question: "Do you believe that the dominant WASP leadership (as demonstrated in the Universities of your youth) were better and more tolerant of freedom of expression? Or do you find that the Jewish and/or diversity stronghold on academia has benefitted the educational system in a more beneficial way? I suspect that the answer that she gives now would be very different from the answer that she would have given 30 yrs ago.

      You seem to think that original feminism has anything to do with modern feminism. They're not feminist, feminist wouldn't say trans women are women. They wouldn't support self ID if they were true feminists.
      Amelia Earhart would be turning in grave at the state of feminism today.
      Woke people are not liberal, they're not for freedom, they're not for women or men, they're nothing they can to be. They're fascists.

      In her defense (and as a Conservative Christian, I never thought I would in a position of defending Camille Paglia), we were all blind-sided. Whether on the Left or the Right, if one claimed back then to revere freedom (freedom of thought, freedom, of expression, freedom to be one's self), then one tended to adopt a "live and let live " philosophy based on good faith. Unfortunately, when one side decides then to abandon that good faith, and to insist that "No, it isn't enough for you to allow me to be me. You must now accept me, celebrate me, encourage your children to be like me, and to create a world that reflects ONLY me", that system collapses. I suspect that, in many ways, classical Liberals were almost as surprised as the Right that freedom can only exist when everyone plays by the same rules. Alas.
