- My cat and dog are both very young (they are the same age, just past puppy and kitten stage) and they love to play fight like this everyday. They cuddle with each other just as much too! Don't worry, they have never been hurt playing like this!
I like how the cat nuzzles him periodically, like ''I love you sooo much..... But I'm gonna bite ya!''

I love to see how they both created rules for their games (never hurt the other one...) and how they respect it, it's always interesting from two different species... Definitely a sign of intelligence for both!

@Brian Davis Not a chance, Tyson was trained to be on guard around human strangers but he took to small animals like a loving big brother. He knew he was stronger but never exerted his power over smaller creatures.
Tyson met Coke when he was 2 years old and Coke was 8 weeks and on that same night, Coke was already launching stealth attacks on his big bro....and the rest of us for that matter. Being white and completely psycho, he also earned his name that night.

@@BSinNH Don't let a Rottie be your first dog unless you do a LOT of research and get to know some first hand - and talk to their owners. I love rotts and have owned them and they are great, but they are a LOT of dog and not the pet for every person. Too many dangerous dogs are raised not by people who are mean, but by people that let them become the alpha and the protector.

The canine is silent and laying down in a relaxed position the entire time, so he is just playing and the cat is nuzzling him. If a dog is annoyed or angry, you'd definitely know it.

Maine Coon’s are absolute UNITS of cats. This one isn’t even fully grown.
Yeah, the only cats naturally meant to take on fully grown rats and win. Biggest and one of the best hunters of all domestic cats.
No I'd say probably about 14 months they dont stop growing fully until they are 5 years old . I have 2 mainecoon cats they are both bigger than that one and they are just 23 months old .
Mine is getting older he is about 9 now but prob 25lbs of fat and is the biggest jerk ever
I have 2 MCs. A girl 23 pounds and a boy 28 pounds. She’s def. the boss of the house. Including the dogs.
My aunt had one show up at her house, no one knew the cat ( we lived in a small town). Just a massive male in his prime. He would kill rabbits, drag them under her house and eat them.
Reminds me of roughhousing with my little brother. Gently pretending that he's genuinely winning at points of the fight, but fully aware of how easily I could whoop his ass if I needed to.
What a good dog. Knows his strength well enough to be gentle. Cat also respects the dogs strength. Both are great together.

Lol that rotty is so gentle and loving. It's amazing to see such a powerful animal be so soft and humble. Just goes to show. You can have all that power and feel a need to show it. That dog would make a great companion for a child.
I befriended a Rottweiler at a auto repair shop.. The gate is locked in the morning and evenings - it took me about 6 months of visiting with the dog almost every day in the morning sometimes in the evening and always on the weekends. I begin bringing the dog balls and playing with it.. I fell in love with the dog the dog fell in love with me.
Once the dog got to know me it love to play but something unique that I observed about the Rottweiler - The Rottweiler knows it can kill but chooses to be gentle when playing with someone who they know is friendly and harmless.
I found the Rottweiler breed to be uniquely gentle and loving animal. His name was nitro and he died of cancer.

My mom had a gigantic Imperial-sized female Poodle (Belle) and a huge stray cat (Smokey) that resembled a Maine Coon cat. Those two would wrestle and chase each other for hours at a time, never actually biting hard, just pretending. Belle would glom all over Smokey till his fur was dripping wet, then they would collapse and take a long nap together, snuggling like besties. So precious.

Dogs are usually good sports about this. We had a black lab-golden retriever mix, and an orange kitten. The kitten would playfight pretty hard, he was a little rough and would scratch at her eyes. When she had a enough, she'd put his entire head in her mouth, lift him off the ground, and he'd go completely limp, reminded of who was much larger. Poor dog, her eyes would get all red from him bugging her. The cat is a sweet guy now too, I guess kittens just don't understand.

It's true that they don't understand - kittens rely on playing with other kittens to realise that claws and teeth are painful, and they grow more gentle as they get older
we have a similar situation, i have a german shepard-belgian malinois mix and a ragamuffin, my cat thinks the dog’s tail is a toy and loves to play with it, my dog doesn’t enjoy this but tolerates it though she gives her the occasional nudge from time to time,

how do animals know to keep "play" fighting? if one accidentally hurts the other, like the cat poked the dog in the eye by accident.. would the dog keep its cool or maul that cat?
They know when they hurt each other. Animals don't loose their temper as much as people do. When they have been around each other for as long as these guys have been, they understand each other.

Yes of course. I just mean when they are playing with each other. They know they are playing and can tell when one wants to stop. My cat used to get tired of the dog and hiss and slap her with his paw but he never used his claws.

I've owned several Rottweilers. They truly understand " with great power comes great responsibility ". They are so gentle with our kids and smaller pets.

I have 1 Rottweiler and 13 cats. He is cute, carefull and the cats are his Family.
I had a Rott-Mastiff mix. Best dog ever. My daughter gave me two goats on Father’s Day a few year ago. The goats were two days old. Almost immediately, the dog became a jungle Jim for those two baby goats. They would climb on him, jump on him, and lay with him. As they got big, they would free range on the hills and forest. The dog would watch those goats. If he barked and howled, the goats would run to the barn or run to him. He also had a flock of 30 free ranging chickens he watched. Rottweiler’s are great dogs and mixed with Mastiff, true gentle giants. Then there were the three cats he lived with. They owned him!!!
