The legendary Tim Schrick 996 GT3 MR video: czcams.com/video/rKX5GW8MvUs/video.html
“ George „sounds like Tim schrick 🥸
czcams.com/video/LYdASFoaV9c/video.html Here‘s a more recent review by him :) not an MR but still very cool to watch
I love his commentary on how to drive this track.
Hearing someone say it belonged to an old lady, I remember once more than 10 years ago passing a GT3 Porche in a bright color, think it was green, complete with big wing and a roll cage, doing 80 or maybe 90 in a 100 zone on the Antwerp ringway. When I passed it (doing 100 in my old Diesel Focus), I noticed a posh but very amiable old lady behind the wheel, barely looking over the steering wheel. It was quite a nice contrast and a view I never forgot. :D
6:45 are you talking about this? I think he was describing the car as an "older gal" per se rather than a brand new 991.2 or 992 or whatever, this car is over over 20 years olds
8:20 the owner is a guy
The production on these videos is crazy! And man, that was a quick reaction to save the car. Things break, but you’re quick action probably saved more than people think. Great video.
Spot on dude! He's doing great :)
The production is crazy? I enjoy his videos, but that's despite the low production values. Do you watch any other successful automotive youtubers? Or you're just kissing ass?
I'll just pretend I can't see the owner in the reflection on the tachometer.
but how good can you see him😂
"Enhance"
Jesuschrist its jason borne
That's a good save Misha! Glad nothing catastrophic failure or accident happened.
Indeed a good save and good reflexes, Mischa, also to dart behind the orange barrier when the engine temperature light came on. 👍 I had a similar experience on a tight highway (without the emergency lane) when a valve on one of my rear tires failed and the tire lost all air suddenly. Luckily I was right by a short SOS lane that was probably 100 meters long and I managed to pull in there and stop. The next SOS lane was at least a kilometer away.
I love listening to the manthey team.
You can tell they are just oozing passion for these cars and for the ring. When i had my own M2C into raeder I got phenomenal service from the sales and servicing team. This helps us 'regular' customers who aren't spending €100ks on a full MR package feel appreciated
Probably in hindsight good it happened there, picked up and straight to Manthey for repair, top service as always 👍
Not gonna lie tho, the recovery lap was amazing 10/10
Jokes aside, I think this would have been terrifying. You acted very quickly and safely. I'm glad in the end nothing bad happened! Stay safe
How’d you get those emoji’s?

Great job, Mischa! You really are talented..I'm glad to see you back strong
One of the most captivating videos, thoroughly enjoyed it. Congrats also to the owner on the quality of English he speaks, amazing how you can spot a really intelligent person from how they employ a language. Oh yes, the car is pure love too. :)
Good to see that nothing too bad happened thanks to your quick reaction and not trying to continue on your own power.
This really should be a lesson in keeping an eye on your gauges. The combination of battery the warning light and the voltage dropping from 14 to 12 should be an immediate indicator that something is up with the accessory belt. On these engines, both the M96/0x and M96/7x, that belt does alternator, power steering, and most importantly, the water pump.
Had this on my car, water pump bearing went out and power steering went straight away. Knew straight away my battery/powersteering and water went down as the belt snapped from the bearing but limped the car for 30 seconds into a spot and got it towed. Feel like someone that doesnt know much about cars might try limp it home and blow their engine doing that but a cheap water pump and a new belt later my car is fine and still going on
Well done misha! Great drills on the emergency procedures for staying cool and getting everything back in one piece. Without a calm head it could have been a lot worse.
You reacted super quick 👌 and minimizing any potential additional damage. Good job 👍
Very impressive save Misha, what I’m amazed by is not only your ability to get to the shoulder quickly, but the presence of mind to reverse behind the barrier too.
I am also very very impressed with the German engineering in that 996 GT3. As you were about to turn the car off I saw the coolant gauge, the needle was on 120degrees and the light was illuminated yet the engine is fine, very impressive.
I once got my 2001 Audi C5 S6 to around 105degrees before I could get to a shoulder and pull off. I immediately was worried I warped the heads, maybe I’m too cautious. Either way, amazing save.👏🏼
Bought one about 2 years ago. I adore that car so much. Every time I am driving it, it‘s giving me a massive smile straight in the face 🙌👌
GT3???
Crikey!! At least your both ok. These things can happen to any car. Also it is great to see you back on the track after your surgery!
The reaction was bang on. Glad nothing bad happened. The lap on the recovery truck got me good.
Good thing you are good physical condition when the power steering when out Misha.
Such a nice car, damn good save too Misha! 👍
Thing I took away is that these beasts can be fixed up by professionals in a reasonably short amount of time, granted it is by MR mechanics at the ring. Beautiful car
This exact thing happened to me in my 996.1 C2. Power steering went, then the battery light went on, then water temps started skyrocketing. Old car problems. Really gotta do your maintenance on these cars if you are going to drive 20 plus year old cars hard.
997.1 same thing happened to me but un the tensioner pulley
Same on my 997.1 at Sydney Motorsports Park. Tensioner like lareau6. Same exact thing. No power steering, then battery warning, then temps.
Same. 996gt3
Good quick thinking there Misha 👍 owner sounded like he was buzzing getting to see what the car can do, Hopefully he went out to get a lap in himself 👌
You’re a good man misha 😎 cool calm and collected that’s always the way. Well done👍
Good save, and so glad it was the pulley and not the crank that broke!
I was driving to work one day and the shaft to my water pump broke off my Cayman, sounded like a grenade behind my back! Same thing though; installed new water pump/belt and back on the road within a day!
Drove the other day the 996 4 and have to admit it was more fun and interacting than the 997.2
Elder cars are more fun to drive for sure
wow - nice job - engine temp went up to max in 3 seconds - this thing has metzger engine and reinforced chassis (glovebox) - a legend.
I hope 'ROGER' didn't suffer too much emotional damage?
Sweet sweet car and congratulations to R for his choice.
"what do you think about all the helpers not being there ?" cue insane laugh from Misha...😆😆😆 very cool
Very quick repair. And good to have this issue found and fixed while the car was so close to Manthey. Would have been a much longer wait to get it fixed if owner had suffered this at home.
Makes a change from that glued Mezger coolant pipe undoing itself and spraying coolant over the rear wheels! Personally, I like the 997.1 GT3 - last hydraulic steering GT3 mezger cars, higher revs and better looking than 996 inside and out. Everyone is different though!
That is the coolest Tow Truck I’ve ever seen. Thanks Misha!
The literal " I own a Porche , but it's in the repair shop" meme
Snapped crank pulley isn't something you see often
This driver/owner has a great car here. My 1999 911 (996.1) was purchased from an owner that was going trade it in but wanted to give a new owner a chance to own it for below low book trade value that his dealer was giving him. I gave him a low bid on Ebay at a midnight auction. 10 minutes later I owned it. I DIY just finished replacing all of the rear-end components that were just getting old. Water pump. Thermostat, all hoses, overflow bottle and secondary air pump. Finally a new serpentine belt. My car broke down exactly as this one in your video. Great example of how you dealt with this very same problem. Thanks for your video.
I really liked the POV camera angle of the second lap
Great job protecting his car immediately!
Very proffesional reaction when things happens with the car.. sais how good you really are with cars.. nice video for learning about how to avoid biggar dissasters on engine..
Thank you for sharing..
Speaking of pulleys - on a car that is not used much in heavy traffic, it's a good idea to switch to an underdrive pulley, that spins the alternator, water pump, and steering servo slower, maintaining the longevity of these parts. Porsche might have engineered the components so that they can endure track use, but most manufacturers dont.
Great video and glad it was a small thing and not a blown engine
Jeeez, all that gym time paid off! Good, fast reactions!
I guess its a good thing that the power steering pump runs from the pulley (contrary to an eps), otherwise you might not notice the issues right away and by the time you do, the engine already cooks without cooling.
Good save, you parked it safely without driving it any more. Well done !
Dude you driving with the head cam is awesome!
This was great example video about what to do in case of technical failure during the lap!
Great, great reaction. Scary seeing the temp needle go up so fast,if it'd been any later, might have been a very expensive repair 😅
HAHA Misha! Mantey should now that if you change to single flywheel on 996 GT3 you need to change the screw to another lenght!! This is not a common knowledge if you are an expert. I got the same issue on my GT3... different lenght on double mass vs. single mass flywheel! Nice drive by the way and a good lecture!!
Thank you for the learning opportunity!
Good vibe flowing on the laps.
The last of the feeling of old vs new imo ended when they went form hydraulic driven power steering for electric power steering. Something about that change is what really changed the feel of everything. Now Porsche is the best in the game at EPS, but something about the steering feel with EPS is just off compared to hydraulic, not that we have a choice anymore. With that being said I think you'd enjoy a 997 as well in terms of "feel" as they are similar in weight with hydraulic power steering.
Driving one soon!
Thank You to "Roger" for taking part and allowing Misha to drive your beautiful car! What a selling point for Manthey and a great reason to own a Porsche! I can only hope that he let's you drive it again with him. Makes me wish I could afford to ship my car there and have you drive me around the Ring Misha! I'm very jealous of Europeans now. Hearing the emotions of "Roger" the Owner as he got to experience the Ring and his car being taken to the limits is just a dream for many of us here in the US. Thank You Misha!
handled like a true pro.
Misha great video! I think the 996 is the most underrated and unappreciated 911s ever. I am hoping you can find one and make it a project car for the channel! That would be a cool journey to take with you!
I own a 996 6 speed cabriolet. It has been supercharged and has a large intercooler in the front end... it also has an Ohlins racing suspension. The IMS problem was taken care of early on.Very cool car with great handling.
@@george40nelson4 Hey man you should make a video of it very nice car indeed.
Damn those some gnarly braces man... good luck and nice job to keep up the youtube with that. I had those and I didn't talk for a whole year >.
Nice driving misha I think you saved the car from a potential crash 🤙👍
Very entertaining lap, with your bulletproof humor.
One question : what haven't you tested on the Nürburgring yet? √ all the cars √ hitting a rail √ riding at the back of the recovery truck
didn't test ALL the cars, but did the other things!
brilliant job in saving both the car and your selves........and now i want a Porsche.....on a corsa budget
997.2 RS 3.8 and 4.0 are the ultimate drivers cars. If you can, buy one and savour the ultimate in mezger manual perfection..
I have the same car in my garage. But mine ist just a „normal“ Carrera with the GT3 Aerokit.
Greetings from Koblenz 😊
I agree with the owners conclusions about emotional automobiles, driver aids worth avoiding and the logic behind not aspiring to track perfection, but rather end user experience.
Rogers baby! cant wait to see it run again!
Could happen to anyone. Great reactions. Great car. 996 rock solid to me.
LMAOOOO. I lost it when driving on the tow truck 🤣
Nice Laps & Save.
And in this case, just only for my personal curiosity, how much does it cost to be pulled out the track because of and engine failure without doing any damage around the track?
Free on a track day! Otherwise around 200€
@@mgcharoudin Thank you Misha, really appreciate your answer.
@@mgcharoudin also when its not a Porsche only track day, can you use your own car aswell or is it only a specific set of cars provided by the organizer?
@@jordyvanderStraten Manthey track day is Porsche only. Doesn't matter if your own or rented one. Other track days don't matter.
that's a lovely car! and difficult to watch the video with all the other lovely cars driving past in the background 🥰
I once ripped my timing belt on the autobahn (on a diesel). The first thing I noticed was the power steering being gone, too.
I didn't know what's going on so I instantly got hot (almost sweaty) and into wtf-state ^^
I managed to roll out onto a motorway station and got towed.
How did you feel when you noticed something is wrong?
Those high revs sound really good.
Great Job, way to handle it. Thanks!
His reflection XD
Great safe Misha!
The POV IS THE BEST !!!
Same thing happened to us once on the highway, only I was in a ancient Dodge SUV nothing as cool as your vehicle! Same first indication, steering got stiff as the power steering pump failed then we saw the engine temp increasing so quickly pulled over. The belt tensioner had sheered off. Spent the night in a sketchy part of Miami before the parts store opened the next day then fixed it and drove home!
Nice way to show wat people should do, in stead of walking out and look for what is wrong in the middle of the track, in 2009 there was a guy with a cayenne after a corner doing just that, than you think about the song, please be gentle with this heart of mine, best content on and off the ring, bless you
POV laps with you driving are insane
I have the Boxster of that generation. Mine has a very similar engine note at 6000 rpm.
Hi MiSHA..
That was a good decision to pull off the track as quick as possible. Thankfully it didn't happen at full speed going thru tight twists & bends on the track. It could have ended ALOT worse for you & the cars owner!
This is kind of similar what happened awhile back.
I remember when you took another "classic" Porsche out for a spin on th'Ring and the brakes failed on you !
I am rather curious tho...
why the Crank pulley snapped off ?? At a rough guess: were the bolts that fasten the Crank pulley "over" tightened? Too much torque wrenching on them that it caused metal fatigue, hence under stress they snapped off while driving ??
Anyway good that it ended Ok
Love ya work bro👍🙂👍
Godbless & ava Gday 🙂
I had exact same thing happen to me at Spa in my 996 GT3!
I like that you can see Rogers reflection :D
hahaha that towtruck footage is maybe the best footage ever shot for the channel
all good. the sound its epic
Plsssssss do an in-depth video about the 991.2 gt3mr, my god I love that car!!
Greets
Good video Misha, good you are showing 996 gt3 but this is an mk2, please try an mk1 as those were done at Porsche motorsport back then and not "normal" Porsche Production chain... Trust me a Manthey tuned mk1; you should really like a lot as it is one of the favorite car of Mr Walther Rhörl himself... please give this car a go, the very first GT3, a new era , (not fantastic headlight design...) but the car was and still remains a fantastic car to drive.
glad it was just a crankshaft pulley, and not a "surprise air cooled conversion" ;)
Well, I had asked about a lap with a 996, so thanks!
Lovely car, and a good save
The water pump pulley snapped clean off my water pump in my cayman s and I lost all power steering immediately. It scared the shii out of me. Never heard of that happening with any other car.
This gotta be such a chucked feeling like think about it
Misha : the owner want to stay anonymous.
The Speedo : ok !?
Great reaction!
Very well saved Misha 👍😎
What a save!
It happened to me at 180 kph on a highway curve in a EG Civic it was scary as hell
Same happend to me and my cayman on the autobahn ... the belt broke and ripped the waterpump ect appart
What a Nice car..
100% agree with the owner, "If we are not doing it competitively, that is what we are here for... maximization of the emotion while driving" I probably butchered the quote but I love his words after 16:19
The very first gt3 mr is a silver mk1 with the mk2 front
the only other time I've seen a temp gauge go up that fast is when I blew up my 96 mustang lmao good reaction though, I kept driving mine for a while
Good save other then that cool car and a nice lap and a half 👍🏻
I'm sure this has been asked before, but is it possible to film a POV lap using a VR180 camera set-up? Would be popular in VR, especially with experiencing all the different cars, 'cos you 'feel' the bumps in and the engine is right there in your headphones. I'm sure logistically it would be a nightmare, and expensive haha. But FUN!
exactly, not really worth doing for a YT vid
I liked the first person view of the second lap.
6:55 that aged well 😂😢
"Battery is off"
"Does it matter to us?" the owner must be really wealthy haha
