I’ve found that it helps to take one day every two to three weeks to disconnect and decompress. Zero work. No electronics. Home cooked food. Lots of outdoors stuff. Lots of walking in nature. Limit social interactions. Contemplate 🤔 on big picture of life, but zero work-related.
I feel this helps train me to be able to decompress faster when I go on longer vacations.

Interesting to see this kind of dysfunction and the denial that goes with it and recognise it as once having been an integral part of my own life and experiences. I will be eternally grateful to my wife, just partner at the time early in our relationship where she put her foot down and made herself quite obnoxious to make me create and maintain a proper work/home boundary, and to let go and enjoy my down time, focusing on home and family.

Also sidenote, Rich hit the nail on the head, lots of great people in the domain of "spirituality" buddhism etc speak of these kinds of things too. Retreating into nature, introspection, time alone with your thoughts, then facing things in this time alone regarding yourself and getting in touch with your true nature. In this grind grind grind hustle hustle hustle society its often overlooked, and is very important to do. I am doing all of this to succeed, but where does it even lead, what do i want out of life? A lot of people dont know the answer to this ironically when asked. Even in terms of productivity lol, deadweight mental stress, past psychological problems and bad emotional states will only hold you back, so better to deal with things within yourself for just a better life overall and more inner peace/clarity. Not an advocate of woo woo stuff so just call it introspection/becoming more in tune with yourself as he says lol.

0:26: 😅 The speaker shares their experience of taking a month-long sabbatical in Australia and the challenges they faced in disconnecting from work.
2:52: 🤔 It is difficult to have clarity and perspective on one's actions while in the midst of the creative process and hustle.
5:34: 🎯 Having goals is important, but having effective systems in place is crucial for success.
8:29: 📝 The speaker is using a month to reflect on their life and make changes if necessary, rather than setting specific goals.
11:11: 🔑 True growth and manifestation of your greatest potential is connected to the courage to face and deal with the things you've been avoiding.

Gosh this is a really interesting conversation because it's something that I'm actually working on right now. Over the last couple of years I've been really working with my therapist and listening to God about dealing with the after-effects of chronic sexual abuse. It's been very painful but also really helpful and productive. I'm steadily cutting away at The addictive behaviors I engaged in to avoid having to deal with what happened to me.
I would highly encourage everyone to take Rick's advice and face their fears head-on. It will be incredibly painful but the pain doesn't last forever. On the other side of that can be Joy. My prayers are that you will seek God in everything that you do and He will see you through your experiences.

I feel like the right approach to modern masculinity is to abandon forcing things, and think of it as being more collaborative, still maintaining the strength plus flexibility, a good collaboration is never having to force things because you can always mutually agree on a new idea with an awareness and understanding of context and empathy, instead of an outdated ideology

The harder we work, the longer hours we put in the more that dial of base requirement to exist gets cranked over. The purpose of technology is to free us from menial labour and indentured servitude and allow us to move into higher order thinking, living, loving. Seating your self worth in an occupation outside of legitimately worthy fields is akin to a slave seating their value in how much they can produce for their master. There is the maintenance of life that everyone must meet, beyond that what we produce should be motivated from inspiration not financial gain.
