Last Chance To See is one of my favourite books of all time. I was lucky enough to hear Douglas's talk "Parrots, the Universe and Everything" back in 1996 and it was just far too much fun! So missed.
I remember watching this show back in the day and never realised quite what a twonk Clive Anderson really was at the time - combative even without reason. The great thing here is that Douglas Adams was such a good sport and keen intellect himself that he didn't feel the need to rise to any of the bait that would've ensnared and enraged so many others - he just lets the snide wash over him as good humour and then turns it into actual good humour. Utter, utter legend.
@@613aristocrat I think I'm in the middle on this. I used to really like it at the time but found myself watching this now thinking, bloody hell, shut up for a minute and let him speak. On the other side of course was the great Bee Gees interview.
I didn't 'tune it' to the great mans work-(to my shame) and I'm impressed with his demeanor here. He is a rare guest in that he joined in and competed with Clive's witty banter, instead of the usual sulky ones who get offended. Douglas was a really great MAN.
All of the movie making world lost some of the best content they could ever have hoped for when Douglas Adams was kinda "glossed over" in stupid wastes of time like this interview, where he ought to have featured as a genius megastar........ but merely bumped in as a 5 minute nothing........... it's going to be hilarious when someone (terry gilliam) makes a proper version of either Dirk Gentley, or Hitch Hiker's Guide......
Holy sheet, I forgot Clive Anderson existed. Saw his face in the thumbnail on my homepage and now my hair is flying back due to all the memories wooshing past my head
Thanks for posting. Its understandable how many of us old gits choose to forget Clive, given how unlikable he was. Kudos goes to Douglas Adams for doggedly trying to enthuse us in a project he clearly believed in.

I wrote “Too bad this had to be so short”, and my Ipad surreptitiously converted it into “Too bad this had to be sort show [sic].” That’s AS, Artificial Stupidity-combined with computer-screen induced blindness.
Some days it's hard to bear the fact that Douglas Adams is gone.
He's my inspiration as a writer. We lost him far too soon. He died just as the technology he's envisioned was starting to become reality...
Clive Anderson always cracks me up. His snide humor is right up my alley.
The fact Hitchhiker's is still read, the TV series is still shown, the radio series is still listened to really shows just how good it was.

Clive was also a very good friend of Douglas. He was one of the ushers at his memorial service.
Douglas Noel Adams has been my favourite human ever for about 18 years. He was a truly great man. Hero of life.
Every clip I see of this interviewer I always come away thinking: "Prick".
That book is awesome. Get the audio book, Douglas reads it himself.
The audiobook is read by Stephen Fry, not Douglas.

Too bad this had to be sort show. The interviewer is just as witty as the interviewer. I loved the bit about holding up the book.

Douglas died 4 days before 9/11 - so ironically the start of the end of the human race happened within a week of his death
Douglas Adams died in May 2001.
