I KNOW. AND I HATE IT
Literally can not watch my old animatic and I want to scream in frustration every time someone mentions it because it makes me cringe so hard. I'm a different artist than I was back then and while this isn't perfect, this is more accurate to the vision I had when I was making the original.
I still plan on keeping the old one up, but I just wanted a redo. It was fun to do anyways, and it's nice to compare and see how far I've come in terms of not only art but how much I've improved in terms of story telling with my animatics since then,

it really shows alex's emotions throughout the entire song
like in the beginning when it was light and happy (the white background)
like in the middle where the sudden dramatic change (the dark gray background) signaled an important change in his life
like in the end where it gets better but not completely (the lighter gray background), like getting over but not forgetting the trauma

Okay - as an artist myself, I can totally understand how, as your art style develops, you’ll begin to despise your old works.
The genius of this one is, even though there are similar frames, and the story is the same, it’s almost an entirely different animatic. You’ve changed the angles, adjusted proportions, added details like glasses and foreshadowing images and little comments that really thoroughly allow the audience to engage with our beloved characters as they are in your universe.
I didn’t know how I could love this one any differently to your old one, but I do. As with everything you draw, I absolutely adore this new addition.
I’ll always adore your first - it’s a classic to me. One time, one my fourth rewatch, my grandma walked in on me just after I had finished it, and I was absolutely shaking with sobs, because your expressions were so brilliant and it HURT me so badly that I could feel exactly what you drew. I managed to convince her that it was just the pressure of senior year that made me cry like that, but your animatic became the thing I watched whenever I needed a good cry.
I’ll always love your original, but this new addition I love just as much, if not differently, for the added details and things I mentioned before. Your art style is just so gorgeously iconic to me.

This is beautiful. I've watched the first one a lot, and this one will be no exception. I've wanted to do something with this song with two of my original ocs, but this one does this song so much more justice than I ever could I think.

Oh Eliza my dear sweet child. I almost teared up when we see her crying at the end, and going to comfort Alex like, "Boy, I love you too much, no crying on my watch." So as you can see, I really liked the animatic.
... I have no words, this is a beautifully tragic story about true love and learning how to move on from loss. John Laurens will always be in my heart. (Back, so hard to type with an android lmao)

I didn’t know it was running and I walked downstairs. My parents started asking questions.
I didn't think there could be a better animatic than the first "I'll Be Here" animatic you made... yet here we are.
I really appreciate the way you drew their expressions, and how you can really see them falling in love with each other as time goes on.
And I also like how in the begginning the background was white, and it got darker when John died to show an important change in Alex's life.
I feel like 3:27 is such a powerful picture.
"You're aloud to move on-- it's okay."
John almost looks sad, whereas in other animatics he looks (somewhat) joyful or looks as if he's trying to comfort Alex, which he is. I love that it seems almost as if he doesn't want Alex to move on-- but he knows what's best for him.
I know when I first watched the original animatic, I hadn't seen the full musical, but a few months ago I watched the full thing and it makes some of the references in this song make sense-- like the "getting rid of my favorite sweater" or "when you find someone handsome and patient and true."
Oh, and GOSH, 4:28 gets me! Alex is finally able to start living his life, past the trauma, and knows he'll never forget his dear John.
Anyways, I love this animatic all around, phenomenal job, FreeSmooches!❤️

*cries in Lesbian* It's so sadddd.... Admittedly I didn't cry as much as the 1st one. I was to focused on the animatic and looking at the details to really be *that* sad. Like wow you've improved so much and it's so amazing. Tbh the original will probably always be my favorite. It was just absolutely the best animatic ever and it was an original. It's my favorite in the since of like reading a really good book and then seeing them put on a screen and not being as good as what it could be. The original is definitely the book as previously mentioned. This one is like the next book in the series. Equally as good but probably not a favorite.
All in all this is really good!

Your art style has definitely evolved over time, and this animatic is stunning and a bit more refined in ways the other one isn't, but I hope that you don't feel embarrassed looking or thinking about the old one. We're all our own worst critics, but the truth is that both animatics are beautiful and emotionally impactful, and I'm personally glad they both exist.
I watched this 3 times and I cried 3 times... OK, so here’s what makes this special to me. I rarely, I mean RARELY cry at these types of things. My eyes usually tear up but I DON’T CRY but this, wow, I got super emotional, First time I watched it, CRIED, second time, CRIED but third time, I washed my face, and for some reason, washing my face helps me be more emotionally strong, welp, I STILL CRIED.
