I don't believe the purlins are needed. He didn't answer the question. I only came here because I was curious. The hatch pattern also decreases the amount of ventilation that can happen. I can understand doing this if they are trying to flatten out areas on an old roof that is uneven, but on new construction, go right onto the decking.

Is there a specific reason you got the roof strapped?
I’m assuming that it looks like new construction or your not going over a shingled roof.
