    Gameplay looks great. Drafting plus a market deck is a sweet design. Needing to defeat units to get your cards back is super cool. But, man, I think having to mess around with adding card to my cards and then taking them all out at the end is housekeeping I will very much not enjoy. Also, I'm moving away from sleeving everything I own because plastic, which will not be an option here. Looks fun, regardless! And I love the enthusiasm Mike brings.

    Looking forward to this. Only issue i see is, the cards dont look like they can all be sleeved, since you have to have your main card sleeved and then you add the cards to the sleeved one. Meaning you are going to have to leave everything unsleeved while you are handling them all the time. Its going to slowly wear the cards down.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You leave the starter cards and enemy cards sleeved at all times. You keep the upgrades and level up cards unsleeved until they are added to a sleeved card. I suppose this could lead to wear, but I don't think it'll be much.

    Well you haven't led me astray on card game recommendations; Skytear Horde & Genshin Tarot were amazing games for us. For what it's worth, Mystic Vale is fine, but Edge of Darkness is where it's at for John's card crafting system. We absolutely adore it - it's a shame it's so inaccessible for most players given the size/rarity of it, but it's possibly the most impressive board game design I've played, but it's truly fun and tense too.
    So, him going this direction for a game sounds like an absolute dream for us. Thanks for the preview/thoughts Mike!

      Yeah this does seem like a really great middle ground. Vale only jumped to "fantastic" for me when the digital version came out, removing all upkeep for such a light game. Edge seemed to recognize that and pivot to the other side of the spectrum, but almost too hard from my few plays of it. This could be the goldilocks I didn't even think I wanted

  • @danielschaublin
    @danielschaublin Před 3 měsíci +1

    I'll say this game brings a new genre on the deckbuilding board games since it combines the card crafting genre that John made into a deckbuilder where your deck is both your actions and your enemies. The card crafting and deckbuilding hybrid is a first since you can make your own cards like Mystic Vale, but you buy base cards first that you put upgrades into later.
    I'll keep my eye on the kickstarter for now. Since I have enough games to pay off soon and/or have to play, I don't know if I'll be able to back it, and like what some others said in the comments too, I don't know if I want to be taking the cards in and out all the time during the game and afterwards when I have to put it away if I got a copy. At least for now, I rather have all the cards sleeved and be done with it once when I unbox it, not do it 50+ times during the game which can be a chore after awhile and might take away the fun for me, especially seeing you have to always put upgrades between 2 cards in the same sleeve (character and enemy).
    Otherwise, I hope you'll be able to do another playthrough of the game once you get a final version in a year or too. Based on how happy you were with the prototype (and saying it might be in a top 10 list once the official version is out), I won't be surprised if you go all-in on it when the kickstarter is live in 3 weeks. I think John really outdid himself this time introducing something new in a game that no one else has done before (take a deckbuilder where you still buy basic cards, but you also get to customize them a bit by buying upgrades for them).

    This looks so interesting but also so complex. I dunno how they could balance this game. I also don't quite see how it could be played on a higher difficulty. It sounds like you skip spaces on the track...which gives you less rounds overall. But your damage against the boss is limits to how much you cycle your deck. So it seems like it would be incredibly hard if not impossible on higher difficulties. Maybe I'm missing something.

    It appears that by linking enemy cards to player cards, the cull action can take on new importance. Usually your decision to remove a card is about getting rid of your weak cards only. Now you may also decide to get rid of a card based on the enemy value on the reverse side. True? The only thing I could see as a hinderance to this game is the complex chain of actions that need to be tracked. This card does this, which then triggers that on these two cards, that then may or may not give you money or damage... etc. Some people can track this well in their head, others will miss things or get AP over it. This can be a downside with large player counts, so I see this mostly as a 1 or 2 player game. Thoughts?

    This video has me pretty keen but my concern is I’ll get caught up in your enthusiasm and get burned again like I did with Warp’s Edge and Bullet. Don’t get me wrong, I think both those games are really cool and well designed, and your playthrough/review videos of those convinced me to get them, but I totally misjudged how much physical admin there was in those games. Playing them for real ended up being 80% admin time (as in; physically moving components around) and only 20% of the time actually playing.
    I think that, because you talk through all your thought processes in the Bullet and Warp’s Edge videos, I get a false sense of how extremely quick the turns actually are in real life. (The high-school-art-class level illustrations in Warp’s Edge didn’t do it any favours in my mind either).
    I ended up not really being a fan of either Warp’s Edge or Bullet but I don’t think I disagree with anything you said in your reviews, they just didn’t factor in how much physical mucking around you have to do in those games. I ended up trying the scripted mod for Bullet on TTS and it’s fantastic! And now in my mind, Bullet is a great video game with a clunky board game version.
    I don’t know if I’m hitting the mark with comparing Unstoppable to those two games but this video really reminded me of them.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think it's got some similarities to both of those two for sure, so yeah, you might want to be cautious, wait for a playthrough from someone that shows the games in "real time" with their thought processes included.
      Though... I think you and I might just be vastly different gamers, because I would consider both Bullet and Warp's Edge to have almost zero admin and bookkeeping, like 90% gameplay 10% admin. Heck, most of my Bullet playthroughs are basically unedited except for my thinking time of how to move my pieces and strategize. Do you consider thinking time and planning your best move "admin"? Cause that would make sense.
      But in any case, yeah, maybe be cautious before backing Unstoppable.

    • @kyelj13
      @kyelj13 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@OneStopCoopShop Thanks for the considered reply. By 'admin', I guess I mean all the time spent handling the physical components. In warps edge and Bullet, it feels like as soon as you see a token come out of the bag, you know what to do with it, but then once you've made that split second decision, you have to put it somewhere, then maybe move some other things, then maybe deal with some cards or some other bits n pieces, then get your hand back in the bag to shuffle around in there and grab another token. It sounds like i'm exaggerating, but all of that takes waaaay longer than the time spent thinking about what to do and i feel like i'm spending the whole time waiting (for myself) to finish all these automatic processes before getting back to playing again. All the kinds of automatic things that would happen instantly or without you having to do anything if it were a video game (probs why I like the scripted version of Bullet so much, it only takes 2-3 minutes per game...). So I guess i'm hoping to find out if there is enough stuff to plan and think about while you're mucking around with the cards/sleeves etc. in this game?

    So, the campaign on KS has become quite a disaster a lot of people seem to agree on, with no added bosses, no add-ons, no upgrades, no pvc cards, no acrylic tokens, nothing, and crazy expensive shipping costs.
    Just one expansion box that will also be available in their store that you get for free backing the campaign, but it’s only 2 characters and about 60 new cards.
    So I am a bit on the fence with backing this one, as it’s pretty darn expensive for what you get and Renegade saying the bosses aren’t real bosses to fight, but more like different flavours to play the game.
    So, coming back to your video again and watching it again, would you say the bosses play different enough? And are the enemies unique enough (obviously they change with the added upgrades, but I mean more on the character side of the enemies)?
    My main reason for backing oe instead of waiting for retail would be to get the playmats, which are likely hard to get in the EU as items in the Renegade EU store are often sold out.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, I think this is probably fine to wait for retail, as long as you aren't attached to getting the mats. It could potentially also be really tough to find the expansion materials. Like the first Warp's Edge expansion is basically impossible to find at this point.
      And yeah, the third boss specifically is a choose your own adventure scenario. Whether you have a big fight at the end depends on your choices. So I wouldn't call any of them a "punch in the face" typical boss experience.
