    Something important to note is that w/ a turbocharged car that requires premium fuel, cost per mile is a more important indicator than MPG.
    My civic Si gets 35mpg but on premium fuel which costs 15% more.
    My wifes 3.5L accord coupe with considerably more HP and torque gets 30mpg on 87 octane.
    Her car has a lower cost per mile than mine does.
    EPA guidelines foolishly prioritize MPG instead of cost per mile, and in the end the consumer ends up with a laggy turbo motor that has a smaller displacement and higher costs per mile.

    • @oimfc37
      @oimfc37 Před 9 měsíci +1

      your math does not add up. even if the fuel costs 15% more that means the si would have to get atleast 15% more fuel economy and it does, 15% more mpg from 30 is 34.5. Furthermore I just checked local 87 vs 93 and it was closed to 12% diff.

    • @fromisheon4867
      @fromisheon4867 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Not all turbo charged cars need premium. Vw jetta s, gli, or gti require only 87. Kia forte gt or Hyundai elantra n-line require 87. Manufactures didn't say all these cars require or recommend premium gas. Civic si and elaborate n requires 87 and also recommend premium gas.

    • @Michael-li3id
      @Michael-li3id Před 2 měsíci

      @@fromisheon4867 all of the vehicles you listed detune the engine when low octane fuel is used. This results in lesser MPG, horsepower, torque, responsiveness, and can also cause a knock.
      The manufacturers aren't going to specify that premium fuel is required because they don't want it to be a barrier to sales.
      boosted car = premium fuel. period.

    • @fromisheon4867
      @fromisheon4867 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @Michael-li3id nah I have kia forte gt. It requires 87 octane. I put premium for 4 months. As a result, it did not gain power and improve mpg. Engineers are smarter than us. They know what they are doing, so when they told us to us 87 octane didn't mention nothing about the premium gas, premium gas is waste of money. The cars require both 87 or premium are programmed to run both fuel. You don't have to worry about knock problems. Boosted cars only need premium when engineers told you to do so. Read the owner's manual. I am a technician and also take automotive night classes. So please do not spread wrong information. Today's tech got much better than before. You can trust engineers.

    I prefer my 10th gen 2018 Civic EXT, CVT.
    After four years and 121,300 miles it’s averaging 34.1 mpg (combined city/highway).
    I test drove the 2022 Civic and when compared to my 2018, I found this new 11th gen offered less value.
    It has a smaller trunk, smaller glove compartment, smaller armrest, no extra large cup holder, one less USB port, no side view camera. The ride felt surprisingly sluggish compared to my 2018 1.5 liter, turbo with 174hp and 162 lb/ft torque. The interior may be prettier and “refined” over the 10th gen, but it’s more form over function. The infotainment system now juts out over the dash preventing dash mounts for smartphones. The honeycomb vents prevent clip on mounts. The exterior looks like a baby Accord and lacks distinction.

    8:09 the reason more people don't choose cars like that is because it's brand new in a global shortage environment. They're very difficult to find, and even if you do find one that's not already purchased before it arrives at a dealership, they're being marked up $5,000 some places. At $33-34k after taxes, you're getting ripped off. But the market has decided this is ok right now, and apparently, so have the consumers.
    To put into perspective, a couple months before the pandemic, a focus st could be had brand new for 25-26k. And I bought an Elantra sport turbo, literally almost exact same specs as this civic SI, for $13k with 19,000 miles on it. $30k+ for a glorified grocery getter with a 1.5L engine is ABSURD! Even if it's fun to drive.
    I will say that it's very impressive to get 38mpg from a gasoline engine with over 200hp, but still not worth the price.
