  • There you have 4 rules to eat pizza like a true Italian.
N1: Don’t ask for ketchup! Pizza in Italy is made with the freshest ingredients You don’t need to alter the flavour with low-quality dipping sauces that will cover the real taste of the ingredients
N2: Do not order Pepperoni pizza unless you want pizza with peppers. if you are looking for pizza with spicy salami order pizza Diavola instead. Pepperoni is an Italian-American topping
N3: Don’t ask for a slice of pizza unless it is ‘’al taglio’’ in squares. In Italy, the pizzerias will only serve you the round individual one. A full pie in Italy is much lighter and smaller than other pizzas worldwide.
N4: Don’t ask for pineapple or chicken as toppings, they are not traditional, if you’re visiting have the real Italian experience. Try the original ingredients like fresh buffalo mozzarella or prosciutto di parma.
What is your favourite topping? Please share it in the comments!

Romanians insist on serving a side sauce with pizza. Sure, you can opt out, but rarely without a weird look. And if you're in the mood for a shawarma/döner, forget finding one in Romania; they add the weirdest things, like grated carrots, pickled cabbage, pickled cucumbers and French fries. And everything's drenched in a gallon of bloody sosuri (sauces). Good luck tasting the actual meat ...😢

This comment section is so toxic. He's not telling you how you should eat, he's telling you how italians usually eat pizza and consequently what to ask if you're in Italy. If you ask for a pepperoni in Italy prople will look confused because peperoni in italian means pepper. Those names were invented by italian americans who basically forgot the italian language and so they created those weird combinations. Everyone is free to add wathever they want on their pizzas but in Italy we generally keep it simple because if your ingredients are very good you dont need to add 5/6 different things on a pizza. If you have top ingredients a simple margherita with mozzarella di bufala will be fantastic. The same goes for a lot of Italian recepies: you need to have good ingredients, in that case less is more. I see a lot of basically racist people in this comment section who think italians are backward and don't know how to innovate. For the food we don't feel the need to innovate because it's already good. I think you should all calm down and reflect before writing.

Italian food in Italy has to be the most overrated food ever, I have been there many times and never been impressed.
French, Portugese, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Thai, and Filipino food to name a few are much better.
    Pasta, I'd rather have noodles.
    Ravioli, I'd rather have dumplings.
Risotto, i'd rather have fried rice.
    Pizza, I'd rather have Lahmacun.
Furthermore, in my opinion, American Italian food is much better.

Your silly chatter is just laughable. The real authority on food is TasteAtlas, which publishes serious annual rankings of the world's cuisines. Italy has been in first place every year. The others vary, but the top spot is always firmly held. The Italian-American spin-off is often something that Italians are right to dissociate themselves from. True Italian cuisine is only what comes from Italy. No one would doubt that Japanese cuisine is better in Japan and that Mexican cuisine is better in Mexico.

I have different favourite topping configurations 😎
-Tomato, cooking cream, shrimps, smoked salmon
    Tomato and mozzarella based:
    -speck, spinach, Parmigiano
    -sausage, gorgonzola, Parmigiano
    -cooked ham and mushrooms
    I also like
-Pumpkin cream based which contrasts a salty topping (sausage and parmesan?)
-Saffron cream based with zucchini, gorgonzola and Parmigiano.
-Fior di latte, Cured ham, fig jam 😊
Have you tried one of these?

I don't know why people are getting so triggered, especially Americans. He clearly states "like a true Italian." And he also says "when you visit" meaning to say when in Italy. He's not saying a word about or against American pizzas, or the way Americans eat their pizzas. You Americans do whatever you want. You always have, you always will.
All he's saying is - and this cannot get more ironic - when in Rome, do as the Romans.
