@Curt Christensen I disagree with Curt only because of the time the show portrayed. He was blatant at times but selective re: who he acted this way in front of. It was hard to hear nonetheless.

The character actors on NYPD Blue were exceptionally good. But Sam Whipple's portrayal of Willy was extraordinary. I saw the original episode, " A box of Wendy, " on TV and his turn as a nonchalant murderer stuck with me for years. The way he says, " Adieu " is chilling. Just a casual, callous throwaway line. All Franz had to do was sit back, loose the reins and let this guy have his head. Also notable are Andy and Simone's reactions to Willy. Despite what they have seen over the years, even they seem quietly horrified by Willy ! Riveting performance.

The actor playing Wendy's brother deserved an Emmy for this performance. From the spittle at 2:19 to his delight at the fizz of his second liter, it's a memorable walk down a dark hall. His twitchy mouth and squinting nose as he says, " Would ya give me a liter? " Brilliant! I particularly like the expressions on Bobby and Andy at 2:40. They are looking at him like a mongoose looks at a hooded cobra. A perfectly executed role. It still haunts me to this day.

There was one where he found a kidnapped girl in the season finale. There was another one where they rescued a kidnapped child in the Christmas episode - "From Hare to Eternity." I don't remember if it was a boy or girl. There was another one where they found the body of a kidnapped boy - "NYPD Lou." I don't have any of these, but season 1 is my favorite season.
