If you have a tow strap, with a ratcheting tightener, you could wrap the end of the handles together, and ratchet tighten the handle bars together. The mechanical advantage you would have would be enormous, and you could do this entirely by yourself. Food for thought!
As long as the strap doesn't just slip down the slope of the handles
Tyler, next try hydraulic rebar cutters like the hydraulic one that lockpicking lawyer used. They can put out thousands of pounds of force.
Edit: I was part of the team that designed the patent of the vevor g-20 and the YQK-300 and those two patents make tons of money.

I don’t know why they’re called “Bolt Cutters”. I’ve ever seen one used for actually cutting a bolt. Chains yes, locks yes, cables yes, bolts no. A bolt is not usually in a position where “bolt cutters” could even get to it.
the original use for bolt cutters was to cut bolt seals from shipping containers at the delivery point. the more you know!!
What do you mean? I see these used regularly to open bolts on secured shipping containers.

Some of those locks would be impossible (or very difficult) to get the bolt cutters in a position that would effectively cut the shackle, IF the locks were connected to a hasp or latch... especially considering that you could barely get the cutters in to cut some of the shackles with them just loose on the table.
I was thinking the same thing throughout the whole video.
I was also thinking the same. No way you could get the bolt cutters on the actual shackle if they were actually locked onto something.
When I worked security in a high school we would obnoxiously use the really big cutters to cut locks left off lockers at the end of the year and It is a small section to access but we managed
@@Fierriel I wasn't talking about the regular MasterLocks that you would find on HS lockers... I was referring to the reinforced ones, with high walls or extra buffering around the shackle...
The ones he couldn't even get the shackle as deep into the bolt cutter jaws to bite as much as he wanted because the jaws were too big. (Including the one that was stil unopenable after he cut it from the top... the only place for a hatch)
Now, I'm not saying that better quality, (even slightly) slimmer cutters couldn't handle the job and potentially fit in the small gap. What I am saying is that due to their cost-saving (aka cheap) quality HF bolt cutters are too bulky and would not make a great first choice...
They can. If they’re willing to cut off a lock, a couple of extra seconds to get it position is nothing.
Everyone complaining about the locks not being cut while "in use" needs to realise this isnt a test of the locks, this is a test of rarher or not the cutters can cut.
I think the problem is less about the locks not being in use and more that he's using the cutters in a position that you wouldn't normally be able to use them in
Mate try leaning against a wall when you're trying to cut the bike lock, so you can push towards the wall, and then the levers won't slide around. Also, the missus says as sexy as the slides are, maybe try boots for tests like this

The boron is Boron Carbide ceramic. Used in numerous applications because of hardness.
The cricket really sells your opening joke quite well.
I've used a come-along cable at the very end of the cutters to pull the handles together. It'll cut some big stuff... once or twice before the blades are ruined.
You don't seem to be thinking about how you could access parts of these locks once they are attached to something. The easy to cut, weak point is not usually exposed when it's in use my guy
While attached to something, a massive pipe wrench can work wonders. Just put the entire lock body in the jaw and twist. The lock or the attachment point will give.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned this in the comments yet, but in reference to the “protected” locks you cut: if the lock was attached to something, you HAVE to cut through the side protective pieces.

😆 My face when Tyler thought he could cut a U-lock with bolt cutters. They're literally specifically designed to be bolt cutter resistant.
Ratchet straps around the handles. Just secure them from slipping off first. Easy torque
14:59 nice trick shot with the pin-end that broke off inside the lock. It fell right through the hole on the other side of the lock. Like a boss.
I love how this is a dual video. First about the bolt cutters, and also which locks are best against the cutters.

Having used those type of cutters for a while if you put the jaws sideways and have one handle in your hands and the other on your waist you can apply an amazing amount of force to the jaws
Looks like Lockpicking Lawyer has a nemesis in the form of Tyler with Harbor Freight tools.
we had those in the army and we used them way more than we should have. often the blades would get broken
Bruh that cricket going crazy in the background.
Those bolt cutters are vital when it comes to building firearms at home.

Those crickets drive me insane!! Anyone else? I know you cant do nothing about it Tyler but damn lol
I have the smaller pair from HF. Not something I use often at all. I wasn't dropping a bunch of money on a tool that gets used twice a decade. I was actually impressed with the quality of the pair I bought. Especially for the price. This pair seems pretty durable as well. You placed a lot of force on those jaws and only one dent from the hardened master lock. Not bad for a very cheaply made tool.
when you do the american lock, try it with the chain attached to it. thats the design purpose. just like you said. if theres something connected to it, its almost impossible
Padlocks are hard on bolt cutters. But you can have some pretty big dents in the cutting jaws and it will still break through it. I just ordered one of those bolt cutters from harbor freight.
oh my goodness, i’m so happy. i thought i was the only one who owned those toenail clippers. IM NOT ALONE AFTER ALL
Insta click when I get my Tyler Notification!!!
Some of the locks you tested are designed to not give you access to the pin to cut when locked, like a tongue lock on a trailer, you would have to try and cut the opposite side.
You should get a ratchet strap or a come along to both ends of the handles and see if you can cut through it or if it would bend the handles.🤔
Those 'shrouded' locks have a bare bar segment that when in use would be obscured - a real test would have been to cut through the metal protecting the shackle
3:36
Be careful when cutting like that. It puts a lot of torque on your triceps. I ripped mine a few months ago using a large set of cutters like that. Took over a month for it to heal, and you lose a large range of motion while it’s healing.
Those crickets don’t sound too impressed. 😂😂😂
12:40 yeah, but Tyler, if that lock would be in use you wouldn't even be able to cut it there. because the blocks on the side would prevent you from being able to rotate it sideways.
I love how he kept a straight face telling us that he clipped his toenails with those lmao
I remember thinking locks were serious and that they couldn’t be passed then I got locked outta the farm and used some paper clips and found out that 99% of locks are 3 pin jokes.
I bought a set exactly like that from HF when they first started some thirty years ago. It was a total piece of junk because the blades when closed left a large gap between. It would not cut much of anything. I hope they have improved since then and it would be nice to see them offer replacement jaws for them.
Masterlock;
easy to pick but incredibly tough to break.
I wonder if you connect the opposite ends of the handles to your pulley system would it be enough to break the bike lock? You probably need something to stop the handles from flipping but it could be that extra force you needed?
6:51 it looks like this bar is like there's like an inside bar, yeah it looks like there's like a a small bar inside
i have an unusual hobby called magnet fishing. it uses neodymium magnets, super heavy duty strength. some can pull over 2000lbs.

That cricket in the background tho. 😂

That cricket has got a lot to say😂

Already liked the video before watching!!
Cool video.
If the lock was on something you wouldn't be able to take the shackles out? If the lock was on something you may not be able to get the jaws around the shackle to cut it.
I think we have a bigger one at work 😂, we have to cut containers open, and the bolt thing they put on those is like 1.5cm in diameter.
Those U-shaped locks need a saw.
My mum once broke her keye in her bike lock and my dad spend about a halb an hour with a hand metal saw to cut that lock.
I was wondering if a good ratchet strap around the handle grips might not be a good way to get the required force. Probably not the best way to get through a lock like that but, as noted, the purpose of the video was to see if he could CUT them.
Use them toe nail clippers to squish that dang cricket!!!
For the u lock, I recommend a gar jack. This will work 😅

I absolutely love this channel. So glad it was randomly recommended to me earlier this year. 👍🏾
Tyler! Just purchase a nice vise! “Extra pair of hands” love the vids :)
You gotta figure out a way to use the bumper of your truck against a tree or something to squeeze the cutters.
T T is the most underrated CZcamsr
FYI... "Bolt cutters" are designed to cut bolts, chain, & cable, not hardened locks.
Battery-operated angle grinders would usually work better, but only if you have the correct blade on them.
The best thing about the Harbor Freight bolt cutters is the flush end of the cutting part; the "high dollar" ones have a rounded end (harder to get into a small space), dent more easily, and typically slip worse.
Hardened just means they were married for a long time.
If you try and cut close to the shackle, the wedge of the blade will but up against it, and create a sheering force perpendicular to the cutting force.
You want to make sure there is good clearance either side of the blades, so that its easier to cut, and so that it doesnt introduce sidewards movement and increase blade damage.
I got a much smaller pair of these, and whilst cheap and cheerful, they get the job done and have never failed me on the odd jobs I use them for.
In what world are you going to cut those locks like that. The walls are to protect from cuts so you have to cut on the walls because the hook piece will be protected by whatever it’s attached to
5:55 Thanks for that Tyler
The Lock Picking Lawyer almost never really tests a lock. Maybe you can destructively test locks? 😊
He collects locks, and is specialized in nondestructive entry.
I have the exact same tool, used it a few times over a dozen or so years. Still cuts like new.
You can easily apply twice the force pushing up instead of putting your weight on the handles.
To cut thicker stuff you can Open the jaws with the adjustment screw so you can get better leverage. Then once you cut through a little ways tighten the screw up and go again.
I thought Mr. Tube was gonna blow an o-ring out on that one. 🤣
I have a set of these in my semi truck to cut the bolt locks they put on trailers for delivery. Love em they cut super smooth. And have a small 12in set for the cable ties.
I use these for work on occasion. Pretty awesome "bolt cutters."

I like how you specifically mentioned that blue dial lock is what you’d use in middle school lockers because that’s exactly what i know them for
Actually funny story if you were unfortunate enough to have the lowest locker and one of those off brand color locks just like yours then there was a 99% chance I could kick it straight open first try
But the black dial master locks I couldn’t kick open
Now you need to buy a lock pick set so then you can learn to lock pick and rake all the broken shake locks.
