A farrier saved a colt for me one time. I thought she has something wrong with her because she was clumsy as biden. He watched her on the wheel and watched her lope and said, "She ain't clumsy, she's right footed." Uh, whut? He said she was reaching with left foot trying to keep up with her right foot. He put a weighted shoe on her left fore foot for 8 weeks, came back and re-shod both front feet and she was all better! She made a fine pleasure horse! Really enjoyed this video Ol' Son. As a kid (many years ago) I used to love watching the guy that shod our horses. He had an old tool box in the shed that I would sit on and watch him from start to finish. Memories! Thanks Dale!

Well if I had waited a few vids I would have figured out what happened to Nick lol..awesome vid! So much to learn from and great close ups. That’s a job I’ve always respected and appreciated! I had a mare with a severe quarter crack, our farrier at the time was so gentle and so patient with her through the process. Bless you all!

How often do ponies need shoed?
Usually around 6 weeks depending on the horse, part of the country, and time of year.
@Lucas Mcdermott sure, if you want them stone bruised, chipped up, sore, and slipping around, leave them barefoot.
