I’m having the same issue as Isaiah in that I can’t get the fork to slide to pump the air out of the oil. What was Isaiah’s fix?
Thanks for the excellent video and being so descriptive. My seals aren’t leaking but my front end seems to be a little mushy. In my opinion it nose dives to much if I brake hard. I’m going to change the fluid for this season and if it doesn’t improve I’ll get new springs next year. I’m if my seals aren’t leaking, should I skip changing out the seals if I’m changing the fluid?
Hello I would recommend just trying to change the fluid and see if it helps make sure you move the fork up and down to work the air out, but it also depends on how much you weigh you may need to upgrade the Springs to heavier-duty your ones but the food test breakdown eventually, if the seals aren't leaking I would just leave them alone take the forks off unscrew the cap on the top put your finger on the spring and just pour the oil out, I would use the recommended oil, or maybe only five wait higher, I've also heard of people using transmission fluid that have had similar issue to what you're experiencing but I don't have no experience on that some research might help you out, let me know if there's any more help I can give you happy riding and be safe
Where’d you get the bushing kit from I’ve seen some on Amazon but not sure if it comes with every part to rebuild the left and right side of fork
It's been awhile and I don't remember but I believe it was either eBay or Amazon as long as the kit is complete and OEM you should be good, I also recommend a high quality oil
Question: the plastic "bushing" at 14:30 that you insert into the bottom of the fork tube, will not go in all the way on my fork. There's a 15 thou difference. I might be able to force it, but it seems like it would break.
When the fork is fully compressed (when assembled) would a half inch of bushing sticking out affect the measurements? Would it risk breaking inside?
Yes it should go right back in turn it until you're able to fully seat it, if the parts aren't aligned properly when you put it back together the fork will not compress
Thanks. Everything is definitely aligned properly. I'm beginning to wonder if the previous owner installed the incorrect part, or somehow the plastic swelled up while I washed it. It will only go in halfway, even with all my weight on the tube. Seems like if the fork bottoms out later when riding, it'll crush it and seize up.
How the hell did you losen the clamp bottom bolts @ 1:37 ? The covers are on the way.
Did you do the modification cut to the covers to expose the two bottom clamp bolts?
If you turn the handlebars I give you enough room to get in there with a long Allen key
I seems like the 650 and 1100 have a similar front fork set up. My clutch side bolt and tube are sticking out about 4" from the top...
After looking at your video, i think the bottom allen key bolt may have come lose which cause the tube to basically be free and the spring is what is slowly pushing it up.
Looks like all the weight of the bike (on the clutch side) is on the bottom part of the fork and the bracket that connects the forks to the frame...
When it comes to the front tire, do you need to balance it or aling it in any way?
Your wheels should always be balanced
Went the whole day going back and forth 🤦♂️ ended up paying someone with a good impact to take the bolt off mine got to putting it together and can’t get the bushing to sit flush no room for the clip that holds it any advice ?

How long should you have to back off that bolt that you use the broom stick. Manually I've been backing off the nut for an hour now is something wrong with this to you
You can't do it manually, you'll have to use an air gun or electric impact, the broom stick will slip
I've done forks a few times, and this time, I can't compress forks after putting in the bottom bolt. I put everything in the correct order. I just don't know what's happening
Make sure you're putting everything in the exact order you took it out I would need more information to see what's happening are you saying when the fork is fully assembled or are you saying you're trying to bleed the are out and it won't move watch the video at 5:40 make sure you put the washer in the same order it came out it must be between the spring and the upper tube if it is below the spring or on top of the tube you will not be able to compress the fork also watch the video at 14:10 and make sure you put the inside damper rod and plastic bushing in this exact order sometimes they can get bound up on the inside also make sure everything is lubed up when you reinstall it
Hey man great video. When I put my damper rod back in and tighten the bolt, I’m unable to slide my forks up and down. Any idea why or where to go from here? Thanks in advance
Yes this is a great question that happens often and It happened to me, the problem is that the washer is in the wrong spot and the fluid can't flow, you need to move the washer that's by the upper spring make sure you're using an oem washer and put it back in the right spot
@@dewaterb the washer on the bolt that screws the the bottom of the damper rod? My bottom piece is also stuck..I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. If you’d be willing to help me for like 5 min over FaceTime or something I would throw you some $ over Venmo lol

Look at the video at 24:20 and make sure you're installing the Spring and washer in the right order

Ok,Im not stupid,but I must be having a moment.i followed your video step by step,twice but when you put the oil in and push and pull the tube up and down to get the air out,I can't get the tube to move but maybe an inch or 2.I put the short tube with the spring on it into the long tube then the long tube into the main housing then put the bolt in the bottom which basically fastens them all together which in my mind is keeping the long tube from sliding up and down but I've watched your video 100 times where your sliding yours up and down,I know it's supposed to but it's not,I tried to put the big spring,washer and tube in and tried pushing it down to screw the cap on but I can't get to compress down that far..any thoughts other that me being stupid?lol
I'm glad you figured it out, that plastic piece will come out on every bike it's wedged in the super tight I just got lucky and mine happened to fall out, And yes also if you put the metal tube in and it doesn't go into that perfectly it won't move up-and-down also if you put the Spring and washer in the wrong order when you put the final cap on top and try to Compress it, it won't move either, Let me know if you need any more help this is the 6th set of these I've rebuilt, Cheers🍻

I forgot to add the plastic piece on the bottom of the tube you say can be pulled out at 14:30 can not be pulled out on mine,it's fixed, looks like it snaps in to another piece inside the tube.
Did you ever figure it out? I’m having the exact same issue. It doesn’t seem to me like that yellow end piece is supposed to be removed.
And, even if it does so what? It appears to me that when I screw in the damper rod bolt it would attach everything together and prevent anything from moving.

I used an Allen socket on a Milwaukee impact, just do the same thing I did at 15:25, but unscrew it instead of tighten it should come right out. Just make sure you have a lot of pressure on the broomstick or wooden down or whatever you decide to use
