    I like this kind of „cheating“ with the built-in scales and chords. Quite obviously you can come up with some melodies or solo runs, that you‘d never have dreamed of before. So it’s only another way of being creative and I really, really love it, since I saw it for the first time (here on your channel). And it’s also thinking / acting outside of the box. Appreciate this, big thumbs up 👍👍👍

      Plus with the built in chords people forget that you can add notes to make them more unique. Similar to the way he combined chords.

    Thanks so so much Jef! This is super helpful, sharing your process in this way!! 🙏🙏 i am using this past year of Corona to familiarize myself (for the first time) with making electronic music in a live improvised setting; as a longtime singer and guitarist, this is all quite quite new for me, and your detailed explanations are not only insightful, but very motivating as well!
    i, too, hope to get back to live performance soon, and introduce this form of live electronic improvisation - yet as you make very clear, this art form takes a whole lot of study, experimentation, and solid working knowledge of the functionality of your gear.... i've only ever gotten as far as guitar pedalboards myself, i don't even use a daw yet 🤷‍♂️ So i really appreciate your commentary on how much brain power this all takes when live in the moment, IT makes me feel met and heard in my studies, as there don't seem to be a lot of videos out there detailing exactly how to perform electronic music in this evolving live improvisational manner.... Perhaps there simply aren't a lot of folks actually doing this as a liveshow....? 🤔
    Please keep your commentary coming, i (and others) are able to glean and learn so much from your kindness in sharing your live process! 🎶🎶🙏🙏

And how to be able to quickly ajust the reverb, effects and levels for the sample recordings and how to control the live sound coming from the microphones . And also how to deal with different length of samples and patterns (2/4/8/16 Free). Let's go for live performance in the streets !! And yes the tip about "perform" button in Grid menu is a fantastic tip ! Christophe from France

    I got my Maschine+ in November of 2020 and it's a little more difficult than I thought it would be, do you offer a course or are you aware of a course one may take to better their skills? Jef, thanks for this video... it's great, as usual. :) Can I make a request? I've watched MANY videos by creators on how to set up the Maschine for recording/looping, BUT none I've seen explain PERFORMING once you've recorded all parts of the song. For example, I simply cannot figure out how to set playback of a (for sake of your video example -- a 4 bar sound you've recorded) to "sync" so that it starts playing at the end of the 4 bars. By default, each sound switches as soon as you hit the pad. But, I don't want it to function that way... I want more of a Ableton style setup where I'm triggering playback of parts, synced to the start of the next pattern/bar. Does that make sense?

    • @jefgibbons
      @jefgibbons  Před 3 lety

      Thanks! As for what you want, it sounds like you’re using “sounds” when you should be using patterns. You could have a pattern ready with your song part, then turn the pad on and as long as your grid is set to scene, it should start over once the scene starts over. I’ll check later to confirm that I’ve worded this properly!

    how do you do that slow track at 16:11?

  • @jamesaita
    @jamesaita Před rokem

    I'm stuck at about min 11:30 here - it doesn't seem to be clear how to get the recorded audio (I want to record a synth arp) to re-loop once it's recorded. The whole concept is to "live-loop" so how do we get the sampled audio to keep going? Something's missing in the technique that's outlined. I'm guessing that's it's related to the "having all the parts in first" bit. Meaning- you need the pad to have midi information "playing" the single pad where you have the looped-in part pre-playing from what I can tell. This is very different from a typical live-looper or Ableton-push-style looping setup. Sort of annoying, but it's a decent workaround. I don't see how you could have multiple takes/layers working this way though. (Again, unless I'm missing something). I made it work this way but it feels like there should be a simple "auto-play-on-record" command that does all this for you.

  • @tamodyssey
    @tamodyssey Před 2 lety

    • @jefgibbons

  • @sternenherz
    @sternenherz Před 2 lety

    Loop length 3, 5, 6, 7, ... isn't possible? That's very limiting! I m used to the RC-505 Loopstation, and because i use lots of VST Sounds i wanted to transition to Ableton-Live-Looping, but that wasnt very satisfying because Ableton only shows 1 active Looper-Plugin at a time, ruining the overview. Since i m unexperienced with Maschine (i d target the MK3 since i always use my laptop) and all my info is this video here, i still don't understand whether it could be a good RC-505 replacement on its own, or only together with the Maschine Jam.

      Good question! If you do that, everything gets the same amount of reverb. If you use a send, you can decide to put more or less on every individual track. Think of a full band mix: now you can put more reverb on the brass to make them seem farther away, and less on the vocals to make them seem closer… just more creative control!
