I LOVE the Cherokee Pow-wow. My husband and I have attended the last two years. Its our Anniversary weekend gift to each other. We have been married 47 years. I did not realize that there were any Pow-wows near us. I am so glad to have researched and found this one. We attend others but not as large as this one. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Its like being there again. See you in June 2019.

Hello, my beautiful people sory to say but that flag does not belong to us... I have been so lost all my life... before my grandmother passed away, I asked her what am I dear? and who are our ancestors? My grandmother told me that I was full blooded Cherekee Indianafter my grandmothers death I still felt at a lost... until I recently started watching Dave Calloway.. whom has helped me upone my eyes.. then thinkgs started to falling into place... I am orginally from Mass. I am from Alabama... who is very proud to find out that I am 100% Indigneous... I have enjoyed watching the video till it made me cry, with such joy and excitment filled with love... I love you all

That flag belongs to the Cheyenne and Lakota when we took it after taking the 7th Cavalry out!!! Custer wore an arrow shirt...we defeated them and took that flag it belongs to us and all natives after that day!!!

I love the tradition of the Native American people, it really wasn’t right for what happened to their ancestors though. I’ve done my history and it’s very sad and unspeakable of those days.

Hello, people. Forgive my forwardness and curiosity. I have confirmed that I am 1/128 Cherokee, and realize that entitles me to nothing. But given my ancestry, I would like to learn more. Question: why does this dance look and sound so similar to those of the Plains Indians, such as Cheyenne or Arapaho? Would they have looked as similar 200 years ago? Does anyone know? I'll keep researching, but maybe you could give me some thoughts. Thanks in advance.

A lot of traditions in the different tribes have been lost due to colonialism and laws that forbad their practice, so some dances and other traditions today were formed. For example, the jingle dance came to a native man in his dreams, and he and other women started the jingle dance traditions. It became a pan-Indian custom since other tribes were forced to forget some of their own customs. Culture is a living breathing entity and many tribes form new traditions because of dreams, visions, and other mystical journeys. I am only a tiny fraction Cherokee and Choctaw myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt! I tried to repeat the best I could based on what I remember from other Indigenous elders. Look up PBS docs on CZcams about indigenous culture and you will learn more. You can look into OsiyaTV as well :)

John Doe that’s the problem, the cherokee nation is filled with too many Caucasians and the real natives like myself are left out of the Tribe. The Dawes Roll has too many $5.00 Indians listed.
