Ive been kayaking for 10 years consistently, and since the 90s, always loved the stealthy feel of fishing from a non motorized vessel. It makes me feel like Im closer to the water. 3 spinal fractures, and 5 herniated discs later, now I have a bixpy and im so thankful to be out on the water in my kayak.. I have a big boat but its just not the same.. a motor saved my ability to kayak, but my first love for kayak came from paddling..
LOVE to see that torqueedo "gerry-rigged" on to a narrow fast 14 foot edyline--- would be a literal rocket ship 🚀
This may be a game changer for me. Mostly my wife and I kayak on small lakes for easy entry and exit. Our favorite water is the White River below a dam. With an electric motor we could float/fish down and motor back to the vehicle. No more rentals, or paying portage.
It's not for me, but I believe that making the experience available to more people is a good thing. I can see the appeal for disabled and physically challenged folks.
Anything that makes fun accessible to the most people gets a thumbs up!
That looked like a lot of fun. Luna was outstanding in how she balanced the turns.
She’s such a good boat dog
I have the same kayak. I put an Xi3 with GPS and love this thing. 4.5mph. Spot lock is so nice. Heavy but can’t beat that open deck. Nimble.
Love it ! ❤🎉
Looks like a blast Dan!!!
It's really about what you are doing, for fishing this seems perfect! Just like having a boat but traveling has got to be way easier
I dont have a trailer, receiver or vehicle capable of towing a boat rn. The addition of a trolling motor on my kayak has been a huge game changer. I can zip around the lake with my motor to those weedy or tough to fish areas, paddle around and be where i want to be, without anyones assistance. Its much easier to fish solo.
It’s all about nature, fun, exercise, and a few snacks for energy!
I wonder if anyone will make a pedal unit with electric assist kind of like e-bikes, I think that would be pretty cool.
Yes Oldtown Kayaks just released one. Fingers crossed 🤞 I get to test it out.
@@HeadwatersKayak...I have the big water pdl....love it...I'm on the fence about adding a torqueedo or other elect trolling motor....or saving for the E-pdl bigwater ....really wanting Fan to do an indepth review, and maybe comparison with the powered yaks you ran for this test???...and I've asked old town , but they don't listen to me, so I need Dan to use his star power to convince Old Town to make Blue kayaks....and then fed and white, ...and a special edition bigwater in red white and blue!..._
Yeah i was wondering what a torqueedo would look like on my lifetime lol!!!
Would love one for my husband’s new Jackson Bite Angler!
Genius marketing really! Sell lots of big heavy kayaks that people feel comfortable and can stand up in, then when they get tired of paddling them, hey we got this nice motor we can sell you! $$ 😅
😂 I’d be lying if I hadn’t thought about that myself.
Cool!
Love electric kayak motors, but dude get your dog a life jacket!
She got one after this.
I like that Cosa X, has the gear track in all the right places. :) And the price is affordable. :)
Yes indeed!
I thought about putting a motor on my kayak. I decided against it, thr reason I got a kayak instead of a boat was because it's human powered and I like the exercise. If I am going to get a motor, I might as well get a small jon boat or something.
That coosa x got me in the feels. I wanna sell my old town 106pdl for that bad boy
I mostly fish out of my 10 foot kayak. Paddle only. Nice little boat but paddling and fishing can get tricky with wind and there is always wind it seems. Would get a peddle drive next time or maybe an electric motor.
Personally I’d just go for a long kayak as the next step. 14’ kayaks have so much glide. But if you want to be hands free a good pedal drive is a great investment.
Hi guys. Would love to see the torquedo on a stealth profisha.
If you've still got a Crescent Crew or the LT2 you did the walkthrough on, you need to put the torqueedo on one of those and make a video!
I mean I'm a paddle guy, through and through, and i just got my first big boy yak(moken 12.5 v2 thanks to you're channel) but i will admit...... it looks fun
Try a Watersnake T24 with a YakGadget pod mount and you will love it on that Moken. Will need a beaver tail rudder of course
For me, Considering the weight I would just use a small aluminum boat? Your already pretty much at the point of needing a trailer anyway. Used aluminum boats are everywhere cheap.
Damn doughnuts on the yak lol noice
I don't believe I saw any comment or question on this, but how does the prop handle/ hold up with seaweed? I love my Old Town PDL pedal drive kayak, but when I hit that noodle or stringy type of seaweed, it stops me dead in the water. Your thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
Nice boats, love your videos bro.the motorized action looks pretty darn good for fishing. But I would not want a motor for a paddling trip
The new titan x would be cool to see on the water with the 110
Johnny bass boat with the same setup like to see it
The future IMO, motorizing your kayak is the number 1 most popular mod to a kayak.
yea lot of pot bellies out there I guess
Wanna see it in the CK1
I put a 55 lb thrust remote control transom mount trolling motor on my wife's CK1. Paired it with a 100AH LifePO4 battery that weighs just 23 lbs. She prefers the remote fob to the foot controls for motor speed and steering. And yes it is okay to add one to a suitable kayak. Makes an easy return from a long paddle possible for senior folks like us. Swapped bikes for fat tire ebikes for the same reason - to keep us biking! Our horses on the other hand still take us into the backcountry without "enhancements' lol.
I'd like to see an 1103 on the back of a Hobie Compass....
Like to see it on a CK1
The accessibility element is a positive for some. And a trolling motor makes sense for fishing. (Not that I believe anyone should ruin a kayak trip with fishing!). But, in general….heck no! If you need a motor, a kayak is probably not for you. But I’m an opinionated [beep] and proud of it.
Very cool but sticking with hobie peddle for exercise and simplicity. Cheers
Right on
Can you put it on an Eddyline recreation yak?
I would like to see torpedo on hobie mirage 360
to each their own. i prefer paddling a kayak. the spawn of the motorized kayak is due to tournament kayak fishing. but if i was going motorized i'd go back to a boat.
hey hopefully you see this but i live in redding and i was looking for a kayak that would be good for using on clear creek and cow creek. was also curious if youve ever been on either of them
Only on clear creek, love the Feelfree Moken for that stuff
you should try it out on your sitka!!
😂 I bet I’d flip! I’m going to try it on a Caribbean
Hi Dan, do you have any tips or is it even necessary to smooth out scratches on the bottom of the kayak?
Heat gun.
I just need to work out how to fit one on my surf ski 🤣🤣🤣
That would be hilarious.
On a nucanoe unlimited
how about a torqeedo on a swift canoe?
I don't think they are the future of kayaking or the end. I like that they exist, but I have no desire for one. I think they are a bit like e-Bikes. They won't supplant analog, just give us all more options.
I'd like to see you try a Torqueedo on anything by Crescent.
Also, more Luna content, please.
perfectly said, that’s exactly how I feel. Especially about Luna 😃
Haha Luna is the most famous street dog this side of the border.
The feel free
It's like electric bicycles they are for pot bellies, or they will make you into one
Silly question how are you steering ? with foot /hand
Foot controlled steering
I would do an electric motor on a kayak in heavy winds or strong current; otherwise, I really enjoy the paddling.
Fair enough!
kind of shocked you havent done a video on the moken 10 pdl....
I have it’s on here
Can we see one on the Jackson Bite? And the Crescent CK1?
Probably not both. I have to fund these projects! 😂
Jackson bite FD has a motor option that bolt on in place of pedal drive
PLEASE find a way to experiment with the Torqeedo on the faster narrower (non-fishing) Kayaks 💪❤ "Where there is a will there is a way". IMO your YT views on those types of videos, if properly titled, will be HUGE. 😊 Torqueedo IMO is missing out on a ton of market share by NOT doing more in/for that segment...
I’ll see what I can find that’s fast!
@@HeadwatersKayak 👍🙏
How about a big fish 108
What kind of camera 🎥 are you guys using ? Very clean . Looks fun for fishing 🎣
Lol why not 😁
Eddyline Carribean 12FS
Trying to find an old Eddyline C-135
How do you get weeds off the motor?
There is a blade that cuts them. Never had an issue.
What we need is an electric trolley to move it on land.
Do you need to register the kayak if it's motorized.? Is there a kill switch if man overboard ?The state would love to tax kayays!
Yes
I enjoy kayaking because I feel almost as connected to the water as if I was swimming (and I often swim from my kayak) but I can get around a lot faster (and a kayak is more enjoyable for me than a paddleboard, rowboat, or canoe). Putting on a motor takes away from that significantly. With every paddle stroke, I'm down in it, interacting with the water. With a motor, I'm just a passenger. Might as well be in my car.
I agree with that too. I paddle for the workout and connection to the water. Most of these guys with motors are there just for the fishing.
@@HeadwatersKayak I definitely agree with including it on your channel. That's part of your viewerbase and it's still very interesting for the paddle purists among us to see what's out there... even if we'd never use a motor in a million years.
I coudn't agree more
feelfree lure
This really doesn’t seem like kayaking though. I think you’ve crossed a line. 😅
I agree. Not kayaking at this point.
Seastream
3 WATERS Big Fish V3
Sorry...V2
it's like going to the gym and sitting in a chair for a couple hours. then going home and siiting on your ass for the rest of the evening eventually you will be too weak to sit up for the movies. there is a Name for it it is called disuse atrophy
Gubmint gonna make people register their kayaks now 🙄
Screw them
😔 SAD... the dog had no LIFE jacket on. 😔
I wouldn’t call it kayaking. I get the fisherman doing it. Kayaks were meant to paddle though. Go get a boat if your just wanting to explore. Don’t come up and tell me you went kayaking though if you used a motor.
Haha fair enough.
Can you still call it a kayak if it's motorized? Isn't it a motoryak or something?
I think in the eyes of the USCG, once you put a motor on a Kayak, they class it as a PWC
I think I agree ☝️ it’s not really a kayak at this point. It’s like a little go cart for the water. Tons of fun though.
@@HeadwatersKayak at that point, the USCG makes the registers it and mandates safe boating classes and certification.
You can call it a kayak, but it is really now a motorboat 😂
Fact none of our kayaks today are really kayaks by shear definition.
a traditional boat that is typically associated with the Indigenous peoples (such as the Aleuts and Inuits) of Alaska, Canada, and Greenland, is usually made of a frame of wood or bone covered with animal skin, and is used especially for hunting and transport
Why bother with a kayak at that point?
Tiny electric boats are cool and have their place but call it what it is. It's not a kayak anymore It's a tiny boat.
Not for $6000. Pedal or paddle is still more environmentally friendly than the electric motor drive
Nope, human powered only. The best thing about kayaking is removing yourself from humans and modern world. You accept the pace of life humans enjoyed until like 1830.
You'll get so weak from doing nothing you wont be able to lift that heavey thing
Dan what happens when you run out of power and you have gone too far and your too weak to paddle back. I guess ya get out your cell phone and call the coast gaurd. No different than a motor boat and you run out of gas. Just a warning for veiwers beware of the human tendancy to do easy entertaining things that require No effort. There is a huge price to pay. Buy this boat when you are too sick and frail and it's the only way you can get on the water. I'm 70 years old I ride bikes my brother is a year older he rides a harley, I walk and hike, he doesn't. I paddle, he goes in a speed boat. He sits on his ass for hours watching Movies on a big screenI I almost never watch movies. Who do you think has a massively better quality of life? If you are like my brother it is almost imposssible for a 71 year old from his lifestyle to enjoy any of my activities its too hard too much work but it is almost effortless for me but it takes dicipline. Human nature wants to sit on its ass and be entertained and results in disuse atrophy.
good for invalids or others who can't paddle but who is gonna get that thing on and off the car. Just get a boat with trailer. Instead of an ebike get a motorcycle . I was in my car being tailgated in town today by an ebike. they really should be called Donar Bicycles
