I don't understand how some fathers get away with owing so much whilst, others on modest salaries, get chased and threatened by The Child Support Agency for a debt of $50.00. It's just unfair!

They do get 'chased' [not very much] but all they have to do is ignore the warnings and there is little they can do about it...As time goes on, the amount adds up to thousands, just because they ignore the letters and phone calls...

It's impossible for decent and hardworking human beings to ignore The CSA when they deduct this alleged "owing" amount out of your annual tax return. Unless you're earning cash in hand or have your own business and can write off earnings, you are unable to evade this heartless government body. They don't give a sh*t about family circumstances or even about the child in question - it's all about collecting money that's been estimated from a ridiculous and outdated formula.
Charlene C - Yes, i have experienced this first hand with myself being from a broken family to an ex-girlfriend with 2 kids and current partner with one kid...NEVER, have i seen child support paid, even though its illegal..
With my ex and her kids, they were owed thousands, all the father had to do was get his boss to lie about income and hours worked..Before this, He was called, sent letters and ignored them to the point of an investigation, where he then got his boss involved in the deception..Current partners ex is on disability so no hope getting child support there...
My father was a paramedic who paid little with no consequence...He ignored letters too....
This is what i meant when i said all they have to do is ignore correspondence, and what i should have said was :- Ignoring the feds works unitl a point to which then, they need a lie or two..[And a liar to boot].
Tim Whitten - I am so sorry to hear about your situation. It's utterly disgusting what some individuals will do to get out of paying maintenance. At the end of the day, it should be about the child/ren.
I just detest how the people who do the right thing end up getting screwed over the most. Especially, the ones who pay the maximum rate of child support but, rarely see their child due to a vindictive/selfish ex. Someone near and dear to me is experiencing this and has had their tax return garnished due an alleged miscalculation. It never factors in whether the child is being deliberately alienated from the non-custodial parent. It's a double ended sword no matter how you look at it.

Omg im in the same boat, my ex no longer works he hurt his back a few years ago got a nice pay out which was tax-free and has spent it on boats, hotted up cars, tow trucks, caravans your name it... but refuses to spend a cent on his three kids and at this moment he owes just over $5,000 and because he does all he's jobs cash in hand as it put a tow truck and a few other things with his payout the kids are suffering... he lives 10 minutes away and doesn't say them for months at a time and that's only because I take them to him.... my car's just about to die, I have no gas at the moment to cook with my car rego is due next week... plus a few other bills and stuff being a single parent isn't an easy job especially when you have your ex husband who is an awesome dad and does everything he he can to support his kids...

It go's both ways. When my parents split up, i went to live with dad, mum never payed a cent of child support, and dad never asked, a few years later I went to live with my mum, the second dad was even a day late, she would be contacting child services. never mind that dad always ended up paying, he was trying to run his own business and money was short, he paid as soon as he could, but did mum care, no.

Actually, that's the number she use to have for the son in law and that number got recycled and Kyle ended up with it. 😆
