2025 Jeep compass : a daring move into the hybrid age

Although the Jeep Compass is not the finest of anything, it comes standard with some of the most sought-after small-SUV models. Every Compass starts with a 200-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. Although its beginning price is more reasonable on the pocketbook than some of its better rivals, they lack all-wheel drive as standard gear. To accommodate light off-roading, the Compass portfolio spans a basic Sport grade to the off-road-friendly Trailhawk with reduced gearing and improved turning radius. Though other small crossovers such as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 are more efficient tools for performance, room, and driving, the Compass is a reasonably priced substitute for the absolute finest.A new 200-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four powers every Compass and generates 221 pound-feet of torque as well. It bolts to an eight-speed gearbox, and all Compass versions now feature all-wheel drive. Trailhawk models include a low "crawler" gear ratio and a Rock mode that keeps the Compass in first gear and focuses torque just to the wheels able to find grip. Visiting our test track showed that the turbo four provides the correct power for the Compact Frame of the Compass, so hustling the SUV to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. The Compass responds brilliantly to inputs, seems more flexible than its tall, boxy look would suggest, and has nicely weighted steering but lacks road feel. Although there is slight lean during close turning, generally the Compass seems well-controlled, firmly planted, and capable on the road. When we initially drove the Compass, an off-road course we negotiated showed that it can hold its own at least over minor hurdles, and we noted nary a misstep from the all-wheel-drive system.For the Compass in 2025, Jeep doesn't modify much; but, later this year this little SUV gets fresh looks and equipment packages. Jeep has not specified exactly what those will look like, but we will update this page as such information becomes known. Updated front grille inserts and later in the model's life cycle new 19-inch wheel styles will be provided. Additionally, the tough Trailhawk gets new all-terrain tires.
