  • Looking for a great all round performance longboard to add to your quiver?
    Well here's my full review of the Harley Ingleby HI4 longboard and why this Thunderbolt surfboard has quickly become a staple of my quiver!
    I absolutely love longboard surfing, whether is knee high or well overhead, there's something super fun and flowy about having a solid 9 foot board underfoot!
    After a few months of playing around with mid length surfboard I decided to get stuck back into longboarding and started hunting around for a performance longboard that would allow my surfing to progress, whilst still allowing more tradtional longboarding as well.
    And that's where the Harley Ingleby HI4 longboard came in.
    The evolution of Harleys 2 x world title winning HIHP, this latest Billy Tolhurst surfboard creation takes the performance DNA and mellows it out a little, allowing it to perform in a huge variety of conditions.
    And I absolutely love it!
    In this Harley Ingleby HI4 longboard review I'll be chatting through:
    ✅ Board breakdown
    ✅ Who it's aimed at
    ✅ What the HI4 longboard is like to surf
    ✅ Ideal wave conditions
    ✅ Thunderbolt surfboard construction
    ✅ Best fin setup for the Harley Ingleby HI4

    Excellent review! 👏🏼👏🏼Very thorough and helpful! I’m enjoying the HIHP in thunderbolt black but good to know more about HI4.

      Glade you enjoyed it Bernie! Keen to get my hands on the HIHP soon for a full comparison’

    Thx for giving the HI4 the attention it deserves 👍
    2:22, our HI4 actually has a little more rocker overall than our HIHP (HI4 tail rocker 4", nose rocker 5.5" for HIHP tail rocker 4" 1/8 , nose rocker 5"), HIHP has a tad more flip in the tail and a flatter nose and paddles as good as the HI4!
    If you like the Red thunderbolt HI4 in bigger waves too, you'd be amazed at how the Black thunderbolt outperforms the Red from Chest high and up. Worth having both constructions in our opinion. Red for below chest, Black for above thigh high 🤙

      Thanks for sharing the feedback, it’s a great board hey?
      Good to know on the Red and Black and that you switch between the two, will have to get my hands on one and do a comparison video! 🤙

    Longboarding is much more fun for me since learning how to cross step and nose ride.

      Good times! I still need to work on consistently cross stepping!

    Great review! Curious how the "HI4" compares to the "HI Diamond Drive" model (Harley's other step-down board from the HIHP). Any ideas on a head-to-head comparison?

    • @StokedForTravel
      @StokedForTravel  Před 10 měsíci

      Glad you liked it! So, I haven’t ridden the Diamond Drive yet, but from the board breakdown and info I’ve read about it, it kinda feels like the HI4 is basically the evolved Diamond Drive, just renamed and with a rounded pin tail and both seem to fit into the same genre of board. I don’t really think you’ll go wrong with either, but I’m certainly loving the HI4 🤙

      @brianmoore5598 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@StokedForTravel Thanks for the quick reply, but the Diamond Drive and the HI4 seem like very different boards to me- the 9'2 DD compared to a 9'1 HI4 is slightly narrower with a more pulled in nose, thicker at 3", has 5L more volume, and most notably has lower "3-stage" rocker with 4 3/8" nose flip and 3 3/16" tail kick (compared to the continuous HI4 rocker that has 5 1/2" at nose and 4" tail kick). Still curious how that would effect the ride and wish I could try them both to see which I like better!

      @@brianmoore5598 looks like I was looking at the wrong webpage Brian, sorry about that! I've done a bit more research today and from what I've seen on the dims/reviews etc I'd say the DD is going to have a tad less performance, but a tad better small wave capability (mainly due to rocker, nose and volume). I'll see if I can locate one for a comparison and review!

    Would the 9'1" be okay for me im 200lb. My go to longboard is a boat at 10ft. Looking for something a little more nimble but can still paddle.

    • @StokedForTravel
      @StokedForTravel  Před 8 měsíci

      You'll notice a big difference in the 9'1 version if you're go to is a big old 10 footer. The 9'3 version might ease the transition a little more whilst still improving the performance heaps!

      Definitely get the 9’3. I use the 9’1 but heavier friends are stoked with the bigger version.

    The Harley fin set didn’t work for me. I’m running it with RM Twins and a 3.6” trailer. Blazing speed that you won’t believe!

      Yeah really fun! When it’s bigger I prefer the Harley Tri Fin set though 🤙

      Single fin is epic on the HI4, our go to set up for last 2 years. Greenough 4A 8.5" on 9'1 (145 Lbs, 5'8) and 9" (160 Lbs, 5'6)

      @@StokedForTravel you're welcome :)
      I don't nose ride much so the 8.5" 4A might be a little short for serious nose riding, but it feels great surfing from the tail to 2/3 up the board and everything else: turns, cut backs, roundhouses... loose, nimble, perfect balance between response and flow, I just can't get back to 2+1! 🤩
