Hello all, just a little background information: 'Éire' on the coin is pronounced to sound like: 'air ah'. The accents on the vowels are each known as a 'fada' (fod ah). The fada has the effect of elongating the pronunciation of the vowel it is on. 'Saorstát' means 'free state', so the whole thing together means the 'Irish Free State'. 'Saor' means 'free' and 'stát' means 'state'.

The format or design on the Obverse of the irish coins was changed in 1938 , a trial strick of 1 1938 halfcrown and 2 penny's were struck to test the design, the halfcrown and 1 of the penny's are in the national museum in Dublin, there was also some small design change to the reverse.. hope this was of some help
According to my coin book, there were NO Halfcrowns for 1938, and the 1938 Penny is Unique, so one of you is wrong.
