      @@fearmorpiercemacmaghnais7186 it definitely is as much as hurling lol. You can check with your stick in lacrosse as well, albeit with limitations. What you all would call “chopping” is legal in lacrosse and is actually quite important for defensive plays, and you can hit their hands as well as their stick. Beyond that though, the rules for contact are basically the same in both sports. Both are very physically demanding sports with a good amount of contact and are largely played at an amateur level. They’re really more similar than they are different

    Lacrosse is actually the fastest growing sport in America, and like most newer activities, will take a little bit to fully take off. I've seen towns where half the town comes out for its school's games and it's a tradition. Baseball is actually in decline, and hockey and lacrosse are pretty much cousins. It is mostly people with little experience of the sport that think of it as a "pussy version of football for rich white kids that can't play baseball." It takes athleticism, thinking on the run, and strength to play well, never mind hand eye coordination. For all the Irish out there, I don't have much experience on curling, but I'm sure they are both good sports, and like most sports, should not be compared. The reason it is seen as a rich white kid's sport is because of the cost of equipment, as well as the cost of summer travel teams or lessons, which can be in the thousands. Other than that it is a sport which a lot of people enjoy, and more so every year.

      yo hi I did look it up, and there was one link saying rugby is, two saying lacrosse is, and one say obstacle course racing is. I played highschool lacrosse 05-08 and it was pretty brutal. The skill level was pretty high, everyone could move the ball fast, but since a lot of us also played travel hockey there would be some pretty big and devastating hits.
      Played middy/long pole mid and would be black and blue after the games. Not sure on the rules now but back then shoulder pads and kidney protectors were optional if I remember right. Oh and there would be the occasional asshole who brought a wood stick and use it sporadically just to break some bones.

    • @gamestarr16
      @gamestarr16 Před 9 lety +1

      john kehoe The problem is you're only looking to compare a sport you love to a sport you don't understand. I would never compare the 2 because a) they are nothing alike, and b) I don't know enough about hurling to talk about it. Sure lacrosse players may not bash into each other without any padding, but acting like you don't have to be in peak physical condition, and be prepared to get whacked by a 6 foot metal pole on a daily basis is just ignorance. Let somebody break a metal or wooden pole over your arm/chest/stomach, and see if you don't gain a little respect for the sport. Not to mention the extreme amount of talent it takes to play lacrosse.

    • @gamestarr16
      @gamestarr16 Před 9 lety

      gamestarr16 also, the game is 100% full contact as long as you don't hit them from behind, and as long as you aren't completely malicious with your stick, or hit them in the head with it, hitting them with your stick is perfectly legal. 3 minutes of a hour long game doesn't do it justice.

But I understand why they weren't impressed. Hurling is like 10 times more intense. They're right, a hurling player would dominate in modern lacrosse.

So I can imagine that if you play it more like the original version it is rougher than hurling. Just because we can't beat the shit out of each other doesn't mean we don't play tough. It's lacrosse, men's and women's is equally entertaining if you love the sport.

    • @samuelcoughlin9165
      @samuelcoughlin9165 Před 9 lety +1

      You get the ball and try to make a play while passing the ball. The tackling is complicated, there's different rules on that, mostly concerning dropping your hips. The "armor" is to minimize injury and bruising. You have to stick check or wait until they drop the ball to get the ball. I hope I answered all your questions:)

    • @josephpetty1724
      @josephpetty1724 Před 9 lety +1

      It's basically like soccer, football, and hockey all in one sport, you have the running back and forth like soccer, the hitting like football. You can actually somewhat "tackle" someone with your stick you have to hold it in front of you horizontally and you can hit the person with the ball, and the gloves and pads are basically like hockey you can use lacrosse gloves in hockey they are the same thing.

    • @SebideeTW
      @SebideeTW Před 9 lety

    • @SebideeTW
      @SebideeTW Před 9 lety +1

      In hurling (which I think is the nearest sport to it) you can run into people and push them around. Thing is though that you can only hold the ball in your hand for a few steps and the rest of the time you have to balance it on the stick so it's easy enough for people to take it off you. In lacrosse it looks like you could just run right up to the goal without worrying!
