    I currently have a 86 Dodge Ramcharger with 8" suspension and 39.5x15.50r15 Super Swampers. Anything over 30 mph was super sketchy but since doing a full crossover steering and removing the taper blocks on the front that come with most aftermarket springs it has fixed the problem.

    when i bought my 1994 dodge ram like 8 yrs ago , the dodge on the steering wheel read upside down . and the ball for the sway bar ball joint end could just pop in and out by hand. it was on 8in front pucks and x2 stacked blocks on the rear axle n leafs. drove it home bout 400 miles from washington. maximum dodge death wobble that day 😂😂😂

    The cause of the nasty caster was the big angle shim on the original front springs

    Did you use the degreee shims that came with the RC lift kit? I've heard some people say to throw them in the trash so I'm curious if you got that caster angle with or without the shims.

    I've got the same 4in RC lift on a 90 w150. The front drive shaft angle hasn't been right since. If the truck is level the u-joint rubs against it's self. If I drop the shackles one hole the front tires rub. (35x12.5) Any suggestions?

    • @MountZionOffroad
      @MountZionOffroad  Před 2 lety +1

      Have you tried degree shims at all? You may have to sacrifice some caster to gain pinion angle. Unfortunately it can be a balancing act with these trucks unless you're going to cut and rotate the inner C's to dial both pinion angle and caster perfectly

    that's exactly what my truck does. it doesn't have an 8" lift. can you help me explain my issues to a mechanic because they tell me everything is good. my 1987 ram is the scariest thing I have ever driven

    • @MountZionOffroad
      @MountZionOffroad  Před 2 lety +1

      Are they checking the alignment of your truck? The biggest issue with this truck is that the caster angle was so far off. Even if you have stock springs, it's possible they've flattened or arched wrong over time, causing the caster spec to be off. New springs or shims between the axle and spring could be what you need. Worn out spring or shackle bushings, or ball joints could also be to blame here. Even tires could be playing a factor. There are so many components in the steering and front suspension that could cause a similar issue, if they're telling you all the components are fine but it's not driving safely, you may need to take it somewhere else.

      @@MountZionOffroad I went to a local Les Schwab and they only did visual inspections because that was the appointment I signed up for. But they pulled it out of the bay after an hour plus and told me everything "looked" okay visually. They told me the battery was at 60 percent. The tires are very new looking. So I scheduled a new appointment at a different Les Schwab and this time asked for an alignment (specifically caster) thanks to your advice and also scheduled a battery replacement. This truck does have a lift but nothing like 8 inches. I assumed they checked the balance of the tires but I'm guessing now that they just checked the pressure. A very disappointing experience. If you want to suggest another company that does alignments and actually listens to customers, I'm totally down. The truck is pristine and babied and I got a great price so I couldn't pass it up but I got the impression that the guy who owned it before me wasn't really a car guy, more of a contractor. I can fix a lot of his stupid boo boos like using friggin wire nuts in the engine bay and his ignoring simple comforts because "the truck is old" I'm really enjoying your channel and glad I discovered you!

    • @MountZionOffroad
      @MountZionOffroad  Před rokem

      The issue is a balance between caster angle and pinion angle. The truly proper way to correct it for a lift this tall is to rotate the inner C's which is a labor intense job to say the least. Your only other option is to play around with wedge shims between the spring and axle. There are some kits available to swap in a 3rd Gen axle and convert to long arms with coil springs, but that's a sizeable investment of both time and $, you'd have to really love the truck and be committed to a tall lift for that to be worth it.
