I hope you are not using hot hair. Birds have low tolerance to heated air as it burns their airsacs

I don't think it was too hot. Obviously, they wouldn't have stood there that long, seemingly enjoying it, and leaning towards it. But your point is well taken.
Have you taken into consideration that they might actually know what they are doing?
