I bought the Tecsun's 330, 680, and 990. I just received the H-501x and wish I had bought it first. It is such a pleasure to use and I love the Blue Tooth Function.
Thanks for another excellent review. I agree that the addition of SD card recording would be KILLER!! i will wait awhile before making a purchase of a radio like this in the hope that Tecsun will add this capability to the successor of the H-501X.
The H-501x is an impressive portable receiver. For me, the tactile sensation of the tuning encoders and the dual battery system are particularly amazing.
Li On batteries should never be considered a negative. I have 18650's that are 5 years old, more than 200 cycles and still going strong. I would not trade one 18650 for 100 DCells. Having freedom from digging through a bucket of throw away batteries is amazing. I was looking at the big Eton radio, but the d cell use automatically took it completely out of the possible choices. I can't imagine paying $350 for a d cell eater. Making the change to lithium batteries is well worth the initial expense.
Bought the big Eton unit (Grundig satellite 750) and was very disappointed. So many problems. The pots are total junk. Crappy unstable volume broke and stayed wide open. Anyway, replaced them all with top quality units. There was many poor connections / cold solder joints. I fixed all of those, but there is still one someplace near the battery compartment. This thing has been a pain and a bill of expense.
Yes, I agree 👍 it's a great receiver. Very satisfied with my earlier Chinese version. It is a shame that it can not record, such as directly to the SD micro card, as some much cheaper receivers do like Retekess $20 receiver can do. 73 de Ray, W2CH.
It's a great radio. But I find the lack of SD Card recording such a disappointment. Other Tecsuns like the ICR-100 & ICR-120 have recording so I can't understand the omission. Include recording and RDS and it would be amazing.
I buy SW radios based on their receive performance. That is,RF, IF, detection capabilities, not their audio performance as this very easy to improve using readily available and cheap equipment. Good SW receivers are not readily available and not cheap. If you n eed HiFi output from your SW receiver, use it as a tuner for your home audio system, or b etter still, buy a true HiFi tiner with AM/FM only.
That is what I have done, use a shortwave radio connected to a Marants integrated amplifier and Klipsch horn speakers... excellent audio quality and here is a good part when the electrics are went off the shortwave radio batteries started and the radio kept playing.
Hi Gilles, I was trying to find the Tecsun H 501X receiver in Canada. I saw your reviews on this radio and was trying to find one for sale in Canada. I was able to locate a few; however, I couldn't locate any Canadian companies that might have this radio still for sale. Would you have any suggestions?
@@OfficialSWLchannel OK, thank you Gilles. I had not heard of them before and thought they were like a DH Gate type supplier, Thank you so much for the advice. I want to thank you for all your wonderful video and of course live shows.
I think that you are mistaken about the difference between the H501 and H501X. If I’m not mistaken the H501 is the North American version with our unique station spacing and the H501X for the rest of the world. It is a very nice radio and I’m thinking about getting one.
no the X is the export version .. it came out in China months before export as the H-501 ... the X they added is really for export outside of Chinese market

It is absolutely amazing receiver
Lol I just figured out the BT on the 501 model and listened to your video with it. It's not in thy instruction manual. Sounds pretty good

Got one Preowned for $125 great deal with all the “case candy”

Get yourself alight duty power bar with a switch so you could turn off the charger with a simple on/off without unplugging anything.
VHF Air and and marine are overlooked these days . Oh ! How I miss my Sony Air - 7.
I did not know you could use this radio as a PC speaker. How cool is that!
It's just Bluetooth
Thank you for the video.
Great radio

Best radio premium
Yeah, first one... recently ordered the p -990x.
Thanks for the fine review. How would you compare this excellent portable with your ICOM 7300 benchtop?
Hi, does it turn off the internal magnetic antenna when an external antenna is used ? (similar to 990x) Thanks
Hello. In your opinion, which is the best in quality and best sensitivity? The Tecsun S2000 or this H501? I don't know which one to buy. Thanks.

You say it has bluetooth. But there is nothing in the manaul about how to bluetooth. So can it bluetooth?
yes it does have it in the full manual, you can use it as a audio speaker even make calls with the integrated microphone
@@OfficialSWLchannel Thank you. I'm thinking of buying it.
Amazon doesn't carry the 501x just the 501.
you never buy a Tecsun receiver from Amazon, Anon-co is the place to get it
@@OfficialSWLchannel got it. Thanks.
no air bands. No buy.;
It has hf airband. And you can buy one of the many cheap airband receivers out their.
