- Unfortunately the rains came early and never let up after a few hours of action at the '15 Spring Nationals at Byron Dragway resulting in a rain out 5-3-15. Nothing sounds more pissed off than a huge gear driven Procharged motor.
That blue chevelle at the start needs them dual salad bowl filters on top for that extra hp. That way it can wheelie the the whole 1/4 mile.

Why do funny cars need a removable starter? is it because they run such high compression?

its the blower, not the compression . they start off the blower, which is overdriven. so they have to spin the piss out of it to get enough crank speed for the magnetos to start working. that calls for a heavy beastmode starter, which runs off 48 volts. that's 4 fullsize standard car batteries. so like the other guy said, no need in carrying all that weight down the track.
Plus that starter itself looks to be an aircraft type. 30 plus volts and high speed suggests that I guess.
Best part is those full body cars don't have those stupid holes and exhaust coming out on the sides like everyone else is doing nowadays!
