For video suggestions, I’d put my vote for Death Stranding. But also perhaps doing some spotlights on older games might be nice to give proper context to ‘beauty’ even in outdated visuals like the original Psychonauts

This is the best "Choose your path" story ever because the choices you made gradually impacts the characters around you.
For all the complaints lobbied against the story for being unsubtle and appropriating, I still love this game and I argue it’s the best designed ‘choose your path’ game ever. And even the harshest critics would find it hard to criticize how great looking the visuals are, especially the performance motion capture. It still holds up even replaying it with my wife this year.
The story is great, the cinematography too, but it kinda lacks punch, there’s very few risks taken on the storyline. That’s where Quantic Dreams kinda fail. They’re good, but not “Naughty Dog good”
@@tom_from_myspace I mean, Naughty Dog isn’t even ‘Naughty Dog good’ anymore these days (didn’t care for TLOU2 much). But yeah, the story wasn’t flawless. Marcus was kind of the weak link of the three leads and Connor/Hank’s plot probably could have carried a whole game without any of the other threads. It’s uneven at times, but I also argue it’s the best game QD ever made/wrote.
What's the argument for it appropriating?
@@dalano_films a lot of game critics criticized the game for overtly using civil rights movement/modern racial protesting themes and images (mostly during Marcus’s plot) because somehow it was insensitive to the nature of those issues or something. I mean yes, it totally does use actual imagery from old and new protest movements (some even echo BLM stuff), but honestly I feel that
1) Androids are not a race of humans so the racial argument is kind of pointless with them. They only have skin color because that was designed for them to be varied for the customers, but they don’t even have race as a distinguishing feature so they would not see it in the same light.
2) Yes they are using that stuff because they have likely seen that it can make an impact. Protesting isn’t a race exclusive thing and even then the androids likely co-opted famous signs and actions because they can work. It’s not subtle, but it’s not meant to be in this case
That’s at least how I view it. It just never bothered me because the story being told is about these specific androids and it’s science fiction so the idea of sentient machines seeking to understand their own identity is not new either. Similar topics are addressed in books like I,Robot aside from the use of modern protest language. It’s just part of the story and I never felt the creators were trying to be disrespectful.
@@JustinZarian Even from a 'BLM' standpoint - The game has many references to Martin Luther King, such as the slogan in the peaceful route "We Have A Dream" and how influential his teachings were towards the peaceful route. The game taught me that peaceful protests are always better than rioting and war, silly as that is to take from a linear game. I don't see how it could be harmful or appropriating in the slightest, in fact it's pretty clearly supportive of equal rights and gives everyone the chance to see what it feels like to be oppressed and how important it is to show kindness and empathy.

I was close to get a good ending on my first playthrough, but I messesd up on the last levels and only Kara and Hank survived.
Everyone, but Luther, survived in my playthrough. It sucked that I wasn't able to keep him alive like the others, but I was at least relieved I didn't lose anyone else.

Love this! More video game content please. There's such great potential for your channel to display video game beauty in a way that isn't by traditional gaming channels; from a more artist view. But not just newer games that benefit from graphical enhancements, you can show so many games front the past that have so much beauty - not just in graphical fidelity - but also framing, art direction, overall aesthetic..

Detroit: Become Human is without a doubt in my list for top 5 games ever. From graphics to sound design, from incredible characters to a gripping story, from unprecedented acting to unbelievable branching paths; David Cage has really done something special here; something that will go down in history as one of the crowning jewels of videogame industry.

Quantic Dream is a french studio, but they bring a new eye to the Hollywood look of the video game.. Beyond Two Souls is my favourite game by them, but Detroit is still breathtaking .
