- Can The Base-Spec Honda HRV S CVT Deliver a Great Drive? [Car Review]
The 2022 Honda HRV has launched last April 2022, and it comes in two variants in the Philippines: a base spec 2022 Honda HR-V S and a top-spec Honda HR-V V turbo. In this Filipino car review, we take the base-spec Honda HR-V S CVT for a drive to see how it performs. The 2022 Honda HR V S CVT is equipped with a Honda City engine and transmission, which did not impress me. The added weight of the subcompact crossover body of the Honda HR-V S made the drive anemic, and not as responsive as what I would expect from a Honda. The only bright spot here is the fuel economy, since it was able to deliver a decent level of fuel consumption. The interior of the base spec Honda HRV S is also cheap, since it has more plastic trim than soft touch materials. When compared to other contenders in the same price space, the 2022 Honda HRV S CVT does not compete as well as other subcompact crossovers, or even its stablemate, the base Spec Honda Civic S turbo.

I appreciate the honesty on this review
In North America, the Honda ZR-V was renamed as HR-V in 3 variants: LX, Sport, and EX-L. It only comes with a K20C5 Inline-4 gasoline motor rated at 158hp and 187Nm of torque. Both LX and Sport come standard with FWD, only the EX-L variant come with AWD.
Great video, Reygan! BTW, do you still have your adorable Mazda Mita?
Thanks! Yes, Scarlet is still with me. She's a keeper.
The only time you had a good weather to review a honda, and this is what you got... You can't catch a break can you? Still a good video! :)
😆😆
Sir, Did you test driven the Hyundai Creta GL? If so, which is better This Hyundai Creta or the HRV -S? Or compared to VW T-Cross? Appreciate your professional advice.
Nice .
HR V sensing ❤️
Sorry to ask again. Since you both test driven the Honda HRV-S & Ford Territory Titanium which are both in the same price class more or less, which do you prefer in terms of performance & reliability? Thanks
Honda syempre!!
Sayang, sana na-retain ang 1.8 engine para s base variant (same w the prev HRV and lower variant Civics). Definitely better than the 1.5. Though economy of scale ang reason ng Honda (cost efficient to produce 1.5 engines for various Honda vehicles).
Still, better pa din ang 1.8.
No to SOHC. The best specs is DOHC.
Kaya ba nito mag drive pa baguio?
reygan, could you make a test drive comparison of the new Changan CS35 and the new Coolray SE. pretty please!!!! or with new changan CS35 review alone.
Agree po 👍😊
That's coming soon, if weather permits. Was supposed to shoot it today.
@@ReygansRides Thanks in advance 👍👍👍
@@ReygansRides thank you so much, reygan. My husband and I are arguing which one we'd get for our daughter. and hoping to get an insight from you on what would be best for a newbie driver like her. you're our favorite car vlogger...
No to Chinese when to compare Honda. No need to compare it!! Coz its not the level of Quailty and Durable.
Ok lang mga negative na sinasabe nila sa Honda, but they not deserve if they choose other Brand. Tandaan nila!! Ma's value money Honda, no worries to battery.
Been driving the HRV 1.5L version here in Australia for 8 months now and also owned a 1.5L Honda City, the same engine with Jazz/Fit. There’s a significant decrease in acceleration & increase engine noise. The Jazz & City drives breezy but the HRV screams ‘vrooooom am a tiny engine fitted in a bigger body!’😂 You expect this generation will have an improved cabin noise? Nope, still with poor sound insulation & even the speakers lack sound quality. The steering wheel is hideous, non-leather, polyurethane material that feels cheap to touch. I say this because it’s always hands on the wheel when you drive.
Here, the base model includes the safety feature driver assist technology but excluded the blind spot monitoring system & fog lights that should come standard these days. Also the rear AC vents is absent here. It‘s essential for backseat passengers during frequent heatwaves & cold snaps! There’s also no spare tyre so good luck calling a rescue vehicle away from the city!
Buyer’s remorse? As I owned a Honda City for a decade without major issues, the HRV is a reliable daily driver. But owning it long-term & loving it? No. The overall cabin comfort & driving experience is uninspiring. Speaker is inferior for a good music or podcast during traffic jams & long drive. You want to drive relaxed, swift & smooth but the engine is noisy & sluggish. I bought this model because I was desperate to get a car post-pandemic & it’s readily available compared to other vehicles with a wait time of more than a year. Second hand cars got expensive due to supply & demand.
Verdict: avoid this base model if you want a fun to drive car. If the budget permits, get the hybrid or turbo variant. Just my opinion and personal experience. Those who own this model or planning to get one, please don’t be offended. You’re entitled to your own preference.🙂
Thank you
Unfortunately, phase out na yung Honda Civic S Variant according to some agents I talked to.
HRV NOT Civic the topic.
@@BoyHonda2.0 i dont know if you watched the whole video, but he’s recommending to get the civic s variant instead, if you want a better engine for around the same price
Hmm, that's news to me too. Unless no stocks lang due to supply shortage?
@@ReygansRides currently on the wait list for the hrv s variant but medyo nagiging impatient nako kaya decided to get the civic base variant instead. But according to some agents from different branches, it was already phased out. This was just last week.
Just spoke to Honda Cars Phils. The Civic S is still in the line up. You may want to reconsider dealers. Shoot me an email amd we can help.
I have a 2021 Honda City and feel the lack of overtaking power especially when driving in provincial roads. I could just imagine the struggle in this base HR-V with the same engine but a bit heavier than the City. Unless you're after the higher ground clearance of the HR-V, might as well as get the base variant Honda Civic which packs a lot more power.
Hondas usually have a linear torque curve even when turbocharged, so if your City comes with a manual mode, use it and downshift whenever overtaking to reach higher revs and therefore get better power output. If no paddles/stuck with full auto, the next best option to switch over to S on the gear lever whenever overtaking. Don't be afraid to reach higher rev ranges (4.5k) as usually that's where the more aggressive cam profile is in VTEC.
I'll go for Nissan Kicks Instead for the (almost) same price. It would be more wise/practical😊😇❤️ But for most people HRV is more than enough❤️
If I were to choose between the two, it would be the Kick because of its practicality in terms of fuel consumption. But in terms of safety features, Interior quality. I think HRV is better
No worries in Battery that's the Honda The Best NA and VTec Turbo.
Price update: from 1,250,000 to 1,380,000
First
👍👍
Second 😆
👍👍
Hmm seems like not that fun to drive
It really lacks power... the Turbo is a better bet.
@@ReygansRides I agree Sir, kaya lang P300K+ ang price difference :(
Mabuti maraming ibang alternatives for the compact crossover na mas mura (ex. GAC GS4, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, Changan CS75).
@@kotabg1946 that's true. Honda Civic S na lang if Honda talaga ang gusto.
Need more power Use S mode. Not to complain anymore!!!!
