Gaethje dipped his head into Max's fingers for the second eyepoke, same reason that Gaethje headbutts often in fights (the mechanics of his punches and how drastically he moves his head into them). Also check the open-handed swipe from Gaethje (who has a long history of eyepoking in fights, unlike Max) around 11:22 when he's in trouble.
Reasonable video review (not real analysis) for casual viewers who haven't seen many fights before, but those leg kicks weren't landing like Shogun-Machida 1 leg kicks. Check the bias at the door.

I feel people arent talking about this as much, the insane KO took away from the fact that Max holloway shut down Justin in a STRIKING fight. When have we ever seen that in the last years? Justin was simply inferior to Max in that entire fight. Seeing how Justin has preformed his last several fights, to see him get dominated and outclassed like that was insane. I never in my wildest dreams couldve imaged Justin Gaethje looking toothless in a striking matchup.
