Mars is the warrior. Neptune is the mystic.A merger of two very different energies. Their integration presents a paradox to the rational mind.
Mars is intense. Neptune is spacious.
Mars focuses precisely on the target. Neptune diffuses attention into a boundaryless cloud.
Mars calls for agency - the exertion of will. Neptune calls for surrender - the opening to Thy Will be done.
Mars - action. Neptune - stillness.
Mars - determination. Neptune - relaxation.
Mars - passion. Neptune - compassion.
Mars - pushing through. Neptune - letting go.
Which energy do you historically prefer?
Are you more Mars - don’t just sit there, do something.
Or Neptune - don’t just do something - sit there.
Of course, you have both. Now, we are being asked to discover what that is possible when we shift from our preferences to a new awareness that only the conjunction can bring.
This conjunction of the Warrior and the Mystic challenge us to turn towards our own impulses for revenge and conquest - whether of others or parts of ourselves.
Neptune and Mars can induce a sense of powerlessness and victimization that is compensated for by outer violence or perhaps inner violence through self-intoxication.
Violence against others or against the self is a by-passing of the deeper invitation.
True sacrifice is life-giving. It’s the acorn shell that sacrifices its acorn-hood to become the oak. The acorn is not meant to stay inside the shell.
We are not meant to stay inside the boundary of our small-self’s kingdom. This aspect calls us to trade in our swords of self-righteousness for the vajra sword - the spiritual sword - of discernment that cuts through the knot of conditioned identity to open us courageously to a life of service and celebration.

I have mars/neptune in mutual reception. I think I deal with this rhythmically.. I am very devoted to my spouse so I guess that’s Neptune in Scorpio, but I have Mars in the Tenth in pisces which means Perhaps my career goals are in service to my relationship goals.

Good question - so the "conversation" between these two archetypes is going to focus on Sagittarian themes - of belief, principles, philosophy . . . and then how to align action (Mars) with the deeper vision (Neptune) of those principles. This is the conversation that Arjuna has with Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.
