Because each soldier who comes home will tell you they regret some things they do and show emotion. If they are made to become 'robots' they wouldn't have Patriotic thoughts, care for their family, make friends and come back with P.T.S.D which plagues almost 90% of the U.S Military. But it is also why in boot-camp soldiers who break-down will be supported by others with some Drill Sergeants being documented on supporting these actions. Soldiers are trained to Protect and SERVE. Not be fucking terminators.

I had a neighbor who was a drill sergeant. He was in the US Army for 33 years and survived 3 campaigns- World War II, Korea and Vietnam. he earned medals for being a paratrooper, purple hearts and all the medals of valor which I took like a couple of large and wide wall displays He became a drill sergeant before retiring. One of the recruits who was in Vietnam later said that the drill instruction and how they were trained were key to his survival in war. Kudos to these instructors.
This brings me back to when I was conscripted to the Danish Army Air Defense in the 90’s. That first couple of weeks in the 3 month long boot camp phase, where most of us were bumbling idiots with way too many of us being hormonal teenagers faffing about and constantly getting ourselves into trouble. 😂 (Back then, the mandatory conscription service was in most cases eight months. 3 months of basic training, then came the unit specific training. For me, it was air defense using the FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS.)
These are so much fun to watch, especially afterwards. Some people don't realize that military can have fun. They usually include these during their practices for special events. They do a serious run through, and then they make something fun out of it!
anyone who went through all the things of basic finally got to do some of this "monkey march" stuff, and after all the work it was actually quite satisfying to be able to all come together in something that was just us and the DI. personally I enjoyed the AF back in late 60's and am glad this type of thing is still a part of the life in basic. tenhut!!!!

The military completes extremely difficult exercises everyday. This exercise is supposed to be a little bit of fun while still maintaining following directions and marching.
Drill and ceremony movements have nothing to do with it. Call me maybe or not it is there to teach them to carry out orders rapidly and instill honor, promote camaraderie and preserve tradition
