Magical Unicorn House

To keep the little ones occupied on a Saturday afternoon I decided to help them through making this little production.
First we chose some characters from their toys and gave them Names and Ages and favourite foods. Princess Heart's favourite food was apples so the plot very quickly swung towards a simple Sleeping Beauty theme.
I blocked out a simple story framework and worked through the dialog with them.
After finalising the script we got the laptop out and started recording the script. This is where we hit our first snag which almost derailed production completely. The older one wanted to record her voice first when I wanted the young one to get hers out of the way as I though it might be more difficult. After some tears she finally learned a life lesson that you can't always be first, and the production was saved.
It was difficult to keep the other one quiet when recording but we got through with some rough audio.
Next I cut the audio together in Final Cut to get a basic timeline going. I couldn't help but put some music in here and there to boost the atmosphere.
Once the audio was in place, principle photography began with our handy-cam in the spare room. I tried to put some props here and there to make things look a little more interesting. I had in mind that the kids would move the animals around in time to the vocals but this would have been impossible. So I just got some different angles and cut them together roughly with the dialog.
Emily helped some with the stop motion scenes. I wasn't intending to put them in but it seamed appropriate.
Update I think a combination of my drive being nearly full and probably dying slowed this down.
For some reason Final Cut was acting like a dog. Perhaps my external drive is giving up or something, but either way almost every change or effect brought up the beach ball, making the editing process painful!
