- I thought I was going to turn an ordinary natural edge bowl. As I turned the piece, I saw a more interesting form developing. It was a whole lot more work but I'm really loving the end result! Finished in shellac.

Phil, I have been making my way through your back catalog, and I am thrilled to see you're still turning. You've likely heard it a thousand times, but your channel is great. Your attitude and enthusiasm are infectious. You're the Bob Ross of woodturning. Be well and have a great new year.
Wow, thanks, Nathan! 😊
Beautiful hollow form, Phil. 😊😊 and you can’t go wrong with the number one hollower. 😊😊
Thank you! 😃
I am so glad you went with hollow form on this. So much beauty in the top! Wonderful job, such a joy to watch.
Glad you like it, thank you! 😊
Big ole turtle shell. Lovin it. 💜🙏
Yup! 😃
So glad you heard and went along with our suggestion. Another beautiful piece that you gave me a heart attack while making.
Haha, thank you, Mark! 😃
It sort of reminds me of a turtle shell. I can also just imagine a bird family loving to nest in it while it hangs vertically somewhere. They could show off the "open floor" plan to all their friends. 😂 This one is really nice Phil. I think you did a great job.
Thank you, Marjie! 😊
It's about time you did something different. Good to see something that challenged your mind. Love to see this. Keep up with the different things that shows your still thinking . Great turning!
Appreciate it, Mark! 😊
It looks like a turtle. Always a pleasure to watch you work and make something out of fire wood.
Thank you, Niels! 😊
That hollow form has a lot of character
😃
Beautiful creation Phil. I really enjoy watching your work and seeing your positive attitude. I always get a laugh out of the way you talk to us like we are there with you. Again you do Beautiful work.
You mean you aren't here? Oh dear, now what? 😊
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop lol. You are a great entertainer Phil.
Boy!! That turned out great Phil! I was skeptical at first. Lots of patience and TLC to get that one to the end in one piece. Well done, Phil!
Thank you, Scott! 😊
The hollow form was an excellent choice. To me, it looks like a box turtle.
😃
Its amazing what you can make out of what anybody else would have just thrown in the firewood pile. Great job.
Thank you, Jacque! 😊
Yay, it’s a Phil night. Just right for winding down to, this side of the pond.
Glad you decided to hollow it out! Like a little spaceship - trying to take off!
Ha, yeah, I guess it does look a little like that! 😃
I love it so much!! I was screaming "hollow form!" Lol😅 You clearly heard me Phil! Thats just beautiful. And as far as usefullness, a shorter boquet or just a potpourri holder! I would love for that to be on display in my home. Thanks Phil!
Thank you, I definitely heard you! 😊
Oh boy did you ever make the right choice on this one Phil! But your well tuned eagle eyes were not going to miss the beauty on the top half. Simply amazing looking Especial the compression grain WOW.
Hard to improve on what nature left on the top side.
So cool and I really love it.
Now to dig through my pile where I know there is a piece of River Birch.
I am afraid it will have to sit and wait. Hope it is not too long.
Take care,
Gary
I've got more of this if you're unsuccessful in your search..... I do know your address. 😉😁
Thank you, buddy! Yeah, I dang near turned all that away! Thank goodness I had just got a cup of coffee and was just standing there, studying it. Merry Christmas, my friend! 😃
I know when I get it flipper around I am thinking time to get rid of all that wood. Thank goodness for coffee LOL
Merry Christmas my friend,
Gary
Love the bubble bowl. Glad you saved the compression grain, Phil.
Thanks, Laura! 😊
Nice save on taking the nub off. Haven’t see you move that fast to shut it down. I really like this turning. Just a cool looking piece of art. I would place it on a shelf to enjoy. The compression grain is very unique. I like it.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
Yeah, I should have stopped when I noticed half the nub missing, dang it! Thanks, Joel! 😊

A neighbor gave me a pile of river birch I stored on the lower deck for several months. When I finally got back to it I found some highly patterned spalting in the wood, best Ive ever seen. Maybe one day you will luck onto some.
Sounds great, Gary! 😊
Another gorgeous piece Phil. Your finish really makes the burl pop.
Thanks for sharing this video. 👍

X 46cm for somebody as a present 2- 3 months ago, I ended up hand carving, out the wings, sides had compression/quilted ,in the grain, great, looking piece of art, Phil, well done, luckily you caught it in the Nick of time,

Reminds me of a little kayak. A river birch kayak. Cheers Phil!

Hi Phil. I think it looks rather like a square home. Hanging on a wall with a stuffed toy square peaking out .

Turtle shell bowl!

😊
That came out great I love the compression grain, I think that really makes it unique!
I think so too! Thank you! 😊
Glad you chose to keep the bark and natural grain.
😊
Hi Phil this River Birch piece of wood is gorgeous I really love the grain in it. I like the history of this piece of wood. You certainly are a masterwoodturner and a talented craftsman, I like how you come up with what to turn tne piece of wood into. This bubble bowl is magnificent and unique well done. Take care of yourself from Amanda xx
Thank you so much, Amanda! Have a great weekend! 😊
Such a cool looking piece of wood to make the bubble bowl from
Yeah, it worked out really well! 😊
If it had a spout, it would work as a Genie flask. Love the art turning. Thank you.
Thanks, Robert! 😊
Looks great. Another change of plans that turned out great!!!
I think so too! 😊
I’m calling it the turtle bowl. I wish I could feel it to appreciate it more. Always a treat watching you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 🥰
Thank you so much, Vickie and the same for you! 😊
What an interesting piece! Well done!
Glad you like it! 😊
Larva Bowl - looks like an erupting volcano😜
Yes, it does look like that too, Jim! 😊
Another very interesting project Phil, will have to get some goose neck hollowing tools, never done a hollow form but looks interesting. Thanks for sharing.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
Go for it! 😃
Phil thats beautiful well done
If you put a little tea light candle inside it Phil I bet the grains and shadows inside there will look amazing phil
Oh, good idea, Malcolm! I do have some small battery LED lights that would probably do the trick. 😊
That turned out beautifully. Thanks
Thank you, Garth! 😊
Really great Phil 👍 Loving this bowl ❤️
Thank you very much, Karen! 😊
Bubble Bowl looks like a Buffalo Eye. Compression Rings complement the eye features. Beautiful turning. Happy Holidays
Thank you! 😊
It’s a very pretty bowl. You’re right, the compression grain in beautiful. I’m glad you preserved it.
Happy holidays to you and yours. Stay warm!
Ah, yes, warm, I remember that! 😊
I think it looks great . You did a terrific job. Very pretty.
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
I had to circle back to catch this one and man am I glad I did! This is in my top 3 favorites you've ever made. ❤
I've dubbed it the "Eye-Bowl".😁
It's a true beauty.
Ha, cool, name, thanks! 😃
Nice bowl ! I think it was smart to keep the compression grain on the top , it’s what everyone is going to look at !
😊
That turned out really cool ...
😊
Definitely a good call on making into a hollowform. The top is very cool and interesting. Thx, take care, and Merry Christmas.
Thank you, Merry Christmas! 😊
Reminds me of a turtle (minus the hole)!
Well done, Phil!
😊
Absolutely gorgeous...love the top!
Cool, me too, thanks, Carol! 😊
super cool, Phil, love the bubble bowl!
Thanks, Colleen! 😊
Beautiful. Has a boat shape to it.
😊
That turned out fantastic! It reminds me of a turtle shell. I make turtles out of concrete with a hold of the top for a plant and that would be gorgeous with a plant sit inside of it. I like that a lot great job.
I like the plant idea, Lynda, thank you! 😊
Well, that turned so much better than I expected! Beautiful! As you were handling the finished hollow form, I saw a tortoise shell. 🐢🐚 😅
This piece is from a large (BIG!) branch that broke off the main tree in the ice storm the Pacific Northwest endured 3 years ago. The other half of the round is almost identical, and now I know what to try to make of it! Nicely turned!
I thought it looked like a tortoise shell too!
@@Baggins_lover 👍😄
Thanks, Dave! To think I almost turned all that away to make yet another natural edge piece. I shudder to think of it, now! 😃
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I might try a more rounded hollow form with the other half since it's nearly this one's twin, gnarly knot and all. Difference is it's a fair bit thicker than what I sent you, so would be more of a pot. Likely won't get to it before spring, though.
@@calmwoodcreations3709 If it has the heal-over around a dead limb, using the area inside the heal-over for the opening works really well. It gives the piece a more interesting top, and draws the eye to look inside. And if you don’t, you can always send it to me through Phil. But then, Phil might just be tempted to keep it! 😂
Nice “turtle shell “ !!
😊
Another very nice piece Phil!
Thank you, Cap! 😃
Good evening, Phil.
I like your bubble bowl. Hollowing it was a great choice. Definitely something I will try. Wishing you all the best this Christmas.
Thank you, Ray, Merry Christmas! 😊
Beautiful Bubble Bowl! 😊
Thanks, Maria! 😊
If I had to turn wood that didn't have a crack in it I wouldn't be turning much at all. I wish I had your vision because I have a couple of pieces that I really don't know what to do with. Nice project Phil!
Mount'em up and turn'em, David! Don't spend too much time thinking about it, just get to it! 😊
Love love love this bubble bowl
Yay! 😊
Awesome. I loved that piece. You do such a great job.👍
Thank you, Marc! 😊
Nice work Phil. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, John! 😊
Phil. This might have taken you three or four days to make but outcome is just beautiful. You can't beat natural beauty
Agreed, Kim, thank you! 😊
Nice as always. You say a bubble bowl, i think it looks like a turtle!
It does! 😊
