Actually, I was driving one of these vehicles for a few weeks, and in all honesty, the silent ride, and superb drive, performance, paid dividends in sheer pleasure, and lets face it, anything that makes one happy, is worth every dollar
Your charge indicator is the green light in the dash - when it's solid green, it's charging (flashing if its in delayed charging mode). If you turn the ignition off, you'll see a state of charge in the dash in miles (rather than a percentage) ... I wish they gave the option of seeing how many kWh of charge you have, but the range in miles uses fuzzy logic based on your previous trip to determine your range. If you drove it hard the day before (or had to use the heater or AC a lot) it will give you a lower estimate. So sometimes it will say 33 miles of range on a full charge when you can actually go over 40 if you take it easy the following day.
I love my 2014 Volt!
I just ordered one same year. Will get the 13th. Has 55,000 miles on it which is good but as my first hybrid car I am worrying about how long this battery system will last and when it goes how expensive will it be.
@@BRExteriorPro I’ll be getting my 2014 in January. 49k miles. Let’s hope the low mileages offsets the relatively high age of our vehicles.
@@braveboy1010 been driving mine for 2 weeks it is awesome man. Worst mpg I get ( in north ga mountains) is like 50mpg and that's when the battery runs out!! I love this car it's awesome.
When the car is charging, while turned off, simply opening the drivers door will make the charge level show on the display.
My favorite American car of that time period.
Keep the fuel tank level low, if mainly using electric ⚡️ to commute, as it makes the vehicle lighter. I only fill up with gasoline, when I have a long journey planned

Considering the Volts have so much weight down low, they aren't as fun on mountain roads as one would think ... plow, plow ... "loss of traction" cut-out because the tires are usually overinflated and like to bounce :D It is impressive through low speed S curves because of all that torque - so it's a compromise. I think they would do well with a set of firmer springs, sway bars and bushings - the ride is really tuned for highway driving - very smooth with "decent" handling, but not exactly a back road carver. That said, I enjoy playing with my 2013 to try to squeeze as much efficiency out of it despite occassional spirited driving. My average mpg is 191mpg thanks to my ideal driving loop (25 miles round trip to work and back - so I only use the ICE engine when visiting the in-laws once a week - they live 40 miles away, so 80 miles round trip I always have to hit the gas on the highway - where I get around 40mpg on pure gas). I have gotten 52 miles from one charge where I was doing a lot of stop and go driving ... averaging 6miles/kWh. I've also gotten like 2.2 miles/kWh in the coldest of Colorado winters when the heat was running all the time.
FYI - The reason the engine comes on when the hood opens is for servicing. This way if someone working on the car needs the engine to run, (even though it has a charge) it's a simple solution vs discharging the battery.
Thanks for explaining why that happens. It seems they could have just as easily had a special routine, such as push the start button & hold for 10 seconds or a service button on the touch display. No big deal either way.
@@theevolvingworld It's only when car is on ;-) If you don't use start button engine won't start.

oh, finally you closed the door and stopped the beep-ing!
,My 2014 Volt has a gas tank problem...it only gets 80 miles of GAS RANGE when the gas tank is full. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you. L (or B on some cars) means that the car will regen brake more on it's own when you take your foot off the accelerator. One pedal driving. It's more of a preference, as when you press the brake pedal it regen brakes as well. To archive the max range: smooth acceleration & coast without any braking.
What's a good price to pay for 2014 Chevrolet Volt Premium FWD in 2021?
And is it really worth it, or should someone look for better models? Thanks!
It really up to you & what you are willing to pay. I'd choose a '16 Prius Prime or Hyundai Ioniq. We have a '17 Bolt EV with the dreaded spontaneous combustion recall that appears will never be remedied, so we might a little bit biased to a different OEM with a better reliability track record.
