I have the Denafrips Ares I and have really enjoyed the level of detail that it can give you.
It is a really awesome DAC! 👌
After reading tons of Ares II DAC reviews, I bypassed Ares II, and bought Pontus II. Loved it so much I upgraded to Venus II in 6 months. Unfortunately, next-level Terminator II is out of my range and my upgrading fun ended in the DAC category! 😅
P.S.-I run my Spotify through my DAC, that makes a HUUUUGE sound improvement!
You will notice a substantial difference if you stream qobuz through a Bluesound Node. Give it a whirl and you won't look back! 🇺🇦🇺🇸👊

Thank you for nice review, can you tell how much is the difference between Zen DAC V2 and Ares II?
May be this is a strange question because one is selling for 189 USD now and the other is 800-900 USD. But I am asking this because I am up to buy iFi Zen DAC v2 but also I am curious to learn what will I gain by paying 600-700 USD more :)
Mike just your opinion which one you think is better is it the Parasound p6 built in DAC or the Denafrips

They are all great. I did do a video on the Pontus II!
What do you need to download for Windows? I have a Topping E30 and I didn't have to download anything. (Using Wasapi Exclusive)
I have had the Ares II for a few weeks, wish I would have went with the Pontus II now. I love the sound vs my Schiit Gungnir, Modi 3, Cambridge CXN, the Denon 4400 avr and SVS Soundbase along with whatever I have laying around.
The sound is warm in a good way, as you described, it is smooth, no more fatiguing sound like I was getting out of all of the above. It reminds more of my vinyl rig, which I just sold to a buddy of mine along with the entire HT rig.
I don't know what Denafrips did, but they sure knocked this one out of the park.
@@andrewp9725 It is all in my head... Holding off for now, economy is not doing good, work is drying up, DACs are not on my to do list. Ares II is staying.

Good question! I've seen lots of people ask this... I wondered the same thing until I took a chance on the Ares 2. But I don't miss it at all! I think of it the same as a CD player or turntable... it's a component that has a steady signal, so I just use the volume of the amp. I'm running a Yamaha AS-1200 out to Klipsch Heresy IVs... the difference this made in my system is pretty amazing!
No preamp in the Ares II, just an old school DAC... 1970's analog bliss.
