  • Car Back-Up Camera - Finding Positive and Negative Back-up LIGHT wire polarities. That is how to find out where Back-Up Light socket is located and then determine which of the two metal contacts inside the socket is the positive (+) side and which is the negative (-) side. Then I show you how to tap into those wires going to the socket to hook up your back up camera leads. Note I purchased this Car/Truck back up camera at NAPA Auto and it only came with a dashboard Video monitor and the camera. Thus the transponder must be built inside the camera and sends a wireless video signal to the monitor on the dashboard. Make sure you are not on a hill or a sloped surface when you put the car in reverse with the car not running and no one being in the drivers seat. Thanks, please subscribe and like.

    Gee, I'm sure glad you were able to see those wires cuz I couldn't see crap because the person holding the camera had it pointing at the interior carpet while you worked BEHIND the interior carpet.

    Well! that was as clear as mud , you just could not see which wire he was probing. I think I'll check out another channel to get some expert tuition.

    Actually, this IS a great video since I'm going to be installing a backup camera and will be using the power to the backup lights to tap into for my camera. Yes, I do need to know which wire is positive. There are 3 wires going into that socket, right? Do I care what the third wire is?

    • @kingcrimson234
      @kingcrimson234 Před 6 lety

      All you care about is finding a wire that goes to +12 VDC when you are in reverse, so no. Doesn't even technically have to be coming from the reverse lights.

    Hi, hope you and you're family are well. I have a question about finding the positive on the reverse light cables. Does the 12v tester with crocodile clamp only pick up a voltage from the positive or also on the negative too? Thanks

    btw. I run this "system" with battery but now I want to get rid of them. What do you think?

    • @stephenfiore9960
      @stephenfiore9960  Před rokem

      …Partially color blind , to be exact. Blue and purple confuse me, and Green and brown confuse me. I have an electrical engineering degree, but never got a job at that.x. So many jobs require color vision. They make color corrective eyeglasses now, but not worth pursuing that at my age. The military said I would be severely limited in job titles because I was too color-blind. I Love your comment. Red and black are not the colors I have trouble with. Thank you. I still have never used the back-up camera all these years later. The delay in the camera turning on was too slow.

      ...... My wife got very sick and I never did finish hooking up this camera. I did get to use the camera briefly and I found out it's reaction time was so slow (delayed) when putting the car in reverse that I decided not even to use the back-up light to turn on the camera, but just plan to manually install an on/off toggle switch for the camera up by the front drivers seat. I can manually turn on the camera as needed. This method also helps because a lot of time the camera would be a distraction in easy to back up situations.

    • @stephenfiore9960
      @stephenfiore9960  Před 7 lety

      My wife got sick and I never did finish up hooking up the camera using the back up lights. The little time I did test the camera I found that the camera was too slow in reacting to showing the picture when using the back-up lights to turn on the camera. In other words by time the camera showed the back-up camera view I was all ready well into backing up. I am going to hook up an on/off toggle switch up by the front seat to manually turn on the camera only when I need it bad. That way the camera can be on well ahead of time and not be so slow in reacting. Thanks for inquiring.
