When you run the game from a flashcart, it usually only runs in DS mode because the games the flashcarts spoof are ds mode games. For DSi mode you either have to run it from the DSi SD or use a DSi mode flashcart like the cyclods ievolution or the upcomming dspico.

I thought that too, but I am using a newer flashcard and it definitely said DSi instead of DS when booting

it would be so much better if all movement was bound to the dpad and aiming was on the triggers instead
