      One of the funniest bewitched episodes was when Uncle Arthur was going to teach Darrin an incantation to get Endora to back off when she got nasty. He gives Darrin a kazoo and a cowbell and makes him sing the "yagga zoozy song". I laughed out loud and I still do. Darrin is singing this stupid song and playing the kazoo and shaking the cowbell and Uncle Arthur is back in the hallway laughing so hard he is losing it.

      They had a writer write the jokes for them

    • @CarbonTech19
      @CarbonTech19 Před rokem +4

      @@Kimidoyle I'm only repeating what everyone connected with the show says. HS was a comedy show, disguised as a game show, and had a staff of writers writing the questions, their plausible bluff answers, and of course, the all important comedic zingers.
      Each week, they filmed that week's 5 episodes, in one day. Each star had their own dedicated set of questions(you can often see Peter Marshall carefully selecting a star specific question), and prior to an episode's filming, the stars were taken aside and without revealing the actual questions(which they technically heard for the first time on camera), were supplied with correct answers, plausible bluffs and in certain cases, comedic zingers.
      Paul Lynde, being the center square, got picked more often than the others, and was the main purveyor of the comedy writers' efforts, written specifically for Paul Lynde's "voice", based on who he was and how he was perceived. So 3-5, at most, jokes per episode, delivered in his inimitable style.
      To use the joke above, prior to filming that episode, Lynde was told that bikers wear leather to prevent road rash, though some people think it's to keep warm, but it's definitely not because chiffon wrinkles too easily. Boom! It's locked in his short term memory and when he hears the actual question for the first time, he's got the zinger on deck and when the laughter dies down he's free to reply with the correct answer, the plausible bluff or some other answer.
      Next time he's called, he's got another one of those 3-5 sets of answer packages , he was just briefed on, to help him reply with.
      The gameplay was legit and the stars were free to answer how they saw fit-bluff or answer correctly, but only after they delivered their zinger, IF they actually had one written for them. That's why some of the other stars' "jokes" seem weak, they are supplying their own, spur of the moment, attempts at cleverness.
      Obviously, Paul Lynde was free to paraphrase or come up with his own improvements on the supplied zinger and might very well have, from time to time, but as I said, his claim to fame was his perfect delivery of those supplied jokes.

    PAUL LYNDE!
    A great comedian!
    Truly the greatest in witty banter!

    Here is an interesting fact about Paul Lynde.
    I found this in a wikipedia about him.
    In 1976, at the Sixth Annual American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) "Entertainer of the Year Awards", Lynde received an award for being voted the funniest man of the year.[26] Lynde immediately turned his award over to host Jackie Gleason, citing him as "the funniest man ever". The unexpected gesture shocked Gleason.[27]
    I remember watching this and can attest to the fact that this is true. I still think Paul is the funniest man of that year and thereafter in any program he was in.
