I'm a retired Continental Airlines flight attendant and I worked on the DC-10 for many years. It was my personal favorite of all the a/c we had in our fleet (our 707s and 757s were my next favorites).....I loved the Pub we had on our DC10s, located between F/C and Coach classes. Continental was known as the Rolls Royce of air carriers and our DC10s were quite the Rolls Royce! I miss it.

As someone who’s loved aviation for quite a while I’m sad majority of the DC-10 passenger service was gone by the time I was born, and I am also sad to hear the KC-10 will be retired by the U.S. Air Force. This is my favorite trijet of all time. RIP DC-10, you will be missed by all.
For me there are two standout aircraft from that era the DC-10 and VC10. As a young teenager would stare at these aircraft as the majestically graced the sky.
I think the downfall of the DC-10 was caused by American Airlines short cutting maintenance procedures that precipitated the Chicago crash of flight 191. After that event the DC-10 was looked at by all as an unsafe aircraft, which was really not the case!
That plane did not deserve the reputation it got. I remember newscasts of people being interviewed and many refusing to fly on one. Most of the DC10 crashes were pilot error or poor maintenance. I believe the only crash due to design was the cargo door failure if I'm not mistaken.
Worked as cabin crew on the DC10. Great aircraft, loads of space and a really roomy cabin. A quite and very civilised way to fly. When British Airways took over British Caledonian it was the only aircraft they kept, says something
When I was in the Navy in 86, I flew on a Western Air DC 10 from L.A to Honolulu to catch my ship in Pearl Harbor. The Stewardess served Champagne on the flight and one was real cool with my buds and I. She gave us a couple of extra bottles and they were snuck off the plane. We later enjoyed them in the airport waiting for a bus ride to Pearl Aloha !!!
I am proud of you for this Tribute video it hits hard! Me and the rest of whats left of the faculty want to say thanks for your video that spread awareness of our plane as it was called the "Death Chamber" for ages but I am happy your one of the avgeeks that respects us and our work! What a striking look for an aircraft with the engine straight thru the tail at the time and I got to fly American's DC-10 once in my life in '76 PHX to SFO.
1985 and the sight of a USAF KC-10 bringing Australia's first two F/A-18B Hornets to Australia was truely a historic moment. The three aircraft were then joined by 4 Mirage III's to escort them to their new base. So picture a KC-10, with a Hornet off each wing, & 2 Mirage's off each F/A-18. Truely magic stuff.
I’m so glad I still see the DC10 flying over my house as of right now. Which is the Fire Fighting air carrier DC10. There are 4 of those left and the one that flies over my house almost weekly is N17085. 😊
I spent many a day and night loading the MD-10-10 / MD-10-30 and the DC-10-10 / DC-10-30 for FedEx. She was a total beast and I loved working them. It was always an amazing experience hearing those fans screaming on takeoff. They were great planes and did whatever we asked them to do. Now we’re seeing the MD-11 heading towards its twilight as well. Thanks for the great video tribute to this awesome machine. Those of us that worked, maintained and flew them will always love them.
My first flight on an airliner was a DC-10! That was back when they would let you come up and visit the cockpit. For a seven year old, it was a real treat.
LAX was DC-10 heaven when I lived nearby in the 80's and 90's. Rode on so many American, United, Continental, World Airways. Five across middle seating but the cabin was so wide, it was nothing. The best part of the DC-10 is that engine in the tail. So dramatic. Looks nothing like the modern "bus with wings" that are used today.
After years of accidents and mishaps, primarily manufacturing faults, the DC-10 was eventually vindicated. In 1989 there was United flight 232 that they were able to bring down without any hydraulics which was never heard of. 111 died but 185 survived. Then there was the ordeal of Fed X flight 705 in which the pilot with a fully loaded, fully fueled plane did aerobatics to disable the hijacker. The plane was never built to withstand that.
My first flight on a jet-powered civilian airliner was onboard an American Airlines DC-10 from Raleigh to Chicago. I was scared out of my senses, but after that smooth flight, I have never feared flying.
