    I agree 100%!!!! You should always check, clean and lube a car that comes right out of the box!!!!!

      Thanks… do those things first.. then a few laps.. the start diving in deeper.. this McLaren I am tuning went from 9.1’s to 7.876 in my layout with just the basics.. totally worth it.

    Great video! Your absolutely correct , I experienced this yesterday it was loud , poor performance. I then did minor tuning and wow just how much better it performed. Very well explained reasons Marty. Thanks for sharing

    #6) Always put any new car tuned or not tuned out on the track and put a handful or more of easy laps on it to warm it up a bit and get a feel for how it runs and drives before you put the hammer down. It's very rare that any new car is going to break the track record the first time it touches the track.

  • @hobbitracing
    @hobbitracing Před rokem +2

    Great stuff Marty. Break it down to build it up. My only addition - after you make sure all components are first in working order, dropped some lubrication, and you've changed to tires of your liking, if necessary, is to still put it on the track before you do any real tuning. You don't know until you know. And if you assume, for example, a tight pod doesn't work and you don't try, or you assume 'well, that gear ratio didn't work in my other one', for example, or 'this car must have a lot of weight added', and you start changing things before you know if what you have is good, you can quickly chase your tail. Case in point, I never thought I'd keep stock NSR Classic 917/10 gear ratio...history suggests so with several NSRs, BUT, with minimal tuning (float, little gooseneck weight, and always a deep wood guide) I'm within hundredths of HRP track record, probably will get it one day. I could see the giddy-up before I even loosened the pod or body. Tuning is crucial, and your reasons are on point, but I want a baseline with good operating cars before I perform what I consider an actual tune. Keep inspiring us man! - Tony

    • @twolinesslotcars
      @twolinesslotcars  Před rokem +1

      Great comment Tony! Yes, perfect example.. I would have guessed that my Mosler would have needed some weight.. but ran some laps before any pod, body float or weight.. it didn’t need it.. I crushed the track record with it… but eventually as I started diving deeper into the tuning.. hinting for tenths of a second.. body float, pod float and weight came into play to get its max potential.
      Thanks so much!!

    Have you ever played with gearing, Marty? I have changed mine to run the orange pinion and orange spur gear made by Thunderslot, with the stock motor.....this set up at our track also improved laptimes. Highervrpms at 12v at the rear wheels.

    Wondering if you shave body posts to get more body float? Plus body float screws..
    I also sand down the front and rear of the frame, and sides for max float. It let's air flow in also.

    • @twolinesslotcars
      @twolinesslotcars  Před rokem

      Mike, yes, some guys are little nervous to go sanding on a new car.. but it is a great way to introduce float to a car that might struggle to float. Body float screws are great and an easy add on! Thanks for adding to the conversation!! Great details!

    • @mikebatt6324
      @mikebatt6324 Před rokem +1

      @@twolinesslotcars I have cars I definitely don't sand the frame. I usually pick a car and do a small build. Motor , gears, body float screws , trued new tires, check axles adjust if a option. As you said check for loose wires and the axles are seated. Just a quick tune. lol

    Carrera cars? All the same right outta the box. Are they fast? On a tight track they can be surprisingly fast.
    Overall not a fast motor in them. They need tires. I can hammer 1000's of laps on them and they suck it up just fine.
    With no magnets its a real learning curve to drive them.
    Still working on the Slot it cars Ive got here. They need a big track to really work.

    • @twolinesslotcars
      @twolinesslotcars  Před rokem

      I guess my layout is big? Slot It cars work really well. Carrera are great with magnets on my track.. no magnets.. a different story. Yes, tires are a must to get them to perform well.

    Sorry, I'm going to be critical of the form, not the content.
    WHY MAKE A VIDEO OR YOU DON’T SHOW US ANYTHING
    Instead of filming yourself speaking, film what you say and how you do it, it will be more informative, more fun to watch, perhaps harder to do.
    thanks anyway for the video
    (I hate all these talk shows where people are filmed debating!
