    -Disclaimer: The Trap Dike is dangerous both in the Summer and Winter. Anyone who attempts to climb it in either season should take great caution as conditions change ALL THE TIME and can be deadly without proper gear or experience. In this video, I have both proper gear and experience for this ascent. Thank you!

    Would love to see a complete list of the equipment you're using for winter hiking/climbing! With the season ending, it's time to shop discounts lol

    Absolutely loved this! Have done the trap dike in the summer and I’m dying to have a winter go at it. This only fueled my passion for winter time in the Adirondacks. Hope to catch ya on the trails one day, maybe stop in at the shop too! Thanks for the awesome posts

    Great video. Like the cinematography. Always enjoy getting to see the pics when I’m not hiking.

    Just moved down south for work. Was at 25 peaks or so before I moved.
    That winter, snow capped, mountain sunset brought back some memories. Never know what ya got until it’s gone!

    I was thinking of doing Colden as my first hike back from a torn ACL, and this just cemented it for me! Your videos are always fun to watch dude. Can't wait for the next!

    Lots of great videos man! What's your trick for keeping the camera batteries alive in the winter? I've had lots of trouble with my GoPro and DLSR when the temperatures drop in the mountains. The best thing I've found is taking the batteries out and pocketing them but obviously its not the most practical. Looking forward to seeing more!

    Didnt know adirondacks had a challenging winter hike out there. This one seems the roughest main stream I've seen on this channel

    • @JonathanZaharek
      @JonathanZaharek  Před 4 lety

      KrazyKrzysztof Well, it’s not a hiking trail! It’s not by any means official. The Adirondacks have 100’s of much more challenging climbs than what I showed you today.

    Great video! I noticed that you guys brought touring ski boots, touring skis, snowshoes, mountaineering boots, ice tools, and crampons. Would you ever consider doing that kind of climb in your touring boots? Just curious if that would be feasible.

    Great vid.
    On the way back from Marcy Dam, why not take the Old Marcy Dam ski trail for the last mile (instead of the hiking trail)? I have always thought its more efficient and it avoids the need to put on skins.
    Any way we can hope for more ADK ski content?

    Is Trap Dike a good first climb for winter/ice climbing? I’ve done a lot of rock climbing and difficult hiking, to give you a sense of where I’m at, I just rope soloed Half Dome via the snake dike route. It was cold, windy and runout as all hell up there. Made me think I should try trap dike this winter.

    • @JonathanZaharek
      @JonathanZaharek  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, It's great in late winter, but make sure you have the adequate equipment and that you go with someone who has done it before.

  • @charlesandcharles_woodcrafters

    Why didn't you guys skin the whole way to the climb and climb in your AT boots?

    • @JonathanZaharek
      @JonathanZaharek  Před 2 lety +1

      I personally did not know how to backcountry ski like that back then. I do now! I’ve gone off and on Colden multiple times now with only skis

    That’s much harsher in the winter. I go up that route at least once a year in the summer and love how you don’t need any climbing gear.
