Didi , I don't actually know about the exact source , but being born in a muslim bengali family I've been brought up in muslim culture . Didi , as far as I know it's prohibited for muslims to wear bindies as it is mostly seen being worn by our hindu sisters . In Islam it is prohibited for all the muslims to wear any sort of clothing or styling material that can be associated with other religions . As bindies have always been a go to fashion theme for us living in bengal going back to the era of indian subcontinent and the time before that , it's in our blood and culture to wear bindies . Islam and muslim culture spreaded in this subcontinent much later on so probably either all or at least some of our ancestors wether we're muslims , hindus or followers of other religions and ideology might have worn bindies daily . Later on when our ancestors reverted to Islam , we became acquainted with the rules and regulations of Islam . My religion teaches me not to dress up in such manner that other can and do assume that I'm a follower or worshipper of other ideology and religions than Islam . From this point of view , Islamic scholers recommend us to not to wear bindis so that others don't and can't assume we're hindu . It's not to disrespect Hinduism , as a muslim , we're taught to respect every religion and their followers . Therefore many of us don't like the concept of wearing bindi on any occasion but wearing kalka in my opinion hits different . I've heard from my mother and grandmothers that doing kalka on their wedding day back in the old days was a cherished desire of most women even if they came from muslim background . Didi , I hope that I managed to answer your questions properly . Though I've not quoted exact reference from Holy Quran or Hadith , I hope that I haven't offended anyone .
