Abraham Lincoln said, “you can please some of the people some of the time , but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.” Jim gives the horses his best, thats why they are so calm and obedient. Duke and Earl looked magnificent front and back in their new harnesses, beautiful.
Stall's, Looking at the horses, THEY, look happy and content in their environment and that is the main, important, thing. They happily walk to them, by themselves, after drinking and must feel secure in their own space. People forget, animals think differently from us. The Harnesses look great, because they are worn by a well matched pair of young horses coming into their prime. This show's Jim's experience and skill, to have picked two colts and then brought them on to this stage. Duke was pretty stoic, "what's the boss want now". Carry on Jim, it works for you and we have the pleasure of coming along and being able to share these moments
I have to say, you treat your horses very well. You do right by them always. Put on your Teflon suit and let those negative comments roll right off...your method works for you and your horses..and it's a great method, to boot! Love you both and your animals..❤❤
For the most part, horses and dogs for that matter, are reflections of their owners. If you want to know how a person truly is, look no further than their animals. You are good people.
I’ve looked forward to seeing those two working together for two years! They’ve sure turned into a beautiful team. You sir have done one fine job! I could tell you knew they were something special when you ordered new harness for them. Congratulations! When it comes time to go to the woods, they’ll be ready.
As to the woods, I imagine Ken and Bill, and maybe Baron, will be doing a winter of coaching before he will trust them as a working team. Logging is a whole nother ball game.
I have been waiting to see Duke and Earl work as a team. harnesses look great. You folks should rightfully be proud of the success you have had getting them to this point. Great Job.
You may not do good with the heat but y'all handled the cold and snow way better than we do in the south if you even whisper the word snow around here you can cause a stampede to the grocery store for bread and milk. 100% fact
Preach it! I have the best of both worlds- raised in the north, so am used to being prepared, but spent all but 16 years of my life down south , so have acclimated to the heat.
I'm just a 'City Slicker' when it comes to farming !! Box stalls, straight stalls, whatever - it's the farmer's choice !! I have a lot of respect for Jim (and Brenda !!) and if their preference is 'straight stalls' for their horses - it's good enough for me !! Onwards and Upwards, Jim and Brenda !! My deepest respects for you both !! I love your channel and KNOW how much you care about ALL your horses !! I've been following along on your channel for nearly two (2) years now and enjoy every minute !! Abby's channel, too !! What a gifted young lady if whom tou can be proud !! 😅❤
Brenda is right that your horses have a very good and balanced mind. It is certainly very important in relation to the genes, but most of all the environment they are in is important for their development, well-being and abilities. It is clear that they are safe and in good mental balance.
Congratulations on your 100K subscribers , commitment and patients gets it done . Careful coaching brings forth the confidence and confirms the suggestion is safe to take on board .
You need one of those large floor fans to pull air in from one opening and out the other. I've seen them in other barns. It really helps to have moving air.
Jim and Brenda, you have a wealth of knowledge about horses, farming, logging, working hard and the importance of God and family! I'm thankful you're taking so much time and work to share this freely with us. I love telling people we're related, and am truly thankful for you both! 😊
what is it ?about 2 years ago when you brought 2 wild colts home , and today 2 years later (about) they are working as a functioning team , I say a good job done, they look super good well behaved and well looked after, there ,will always be nay Sayers, something we have to put up with, but file away under miscellaneous, any one would be proud to own these two horses Duke and EARL Kudos to you Jim
The colts are 4 yrs old now, weaned the day Jim picked them up, 9 months old and not looking like much at all, in the rough and unhandled. But that day he also looked at the sire, and the dams, and I saw what Jim saw, just magnificent, and in work. Baron popped up as a sort of going concern, and he grabbed that mountain of a gold mine. Now 2 fillies by Baron from Lady, and Baron's seed in storage. The pulling community is gonna have to up its game! Greetings from Australia.
When you were gone and Abby did that video with Trudy showing Lady and June, Skippy was nipping at Bill’s heels as they let him out. I suspect he doesn’t do it around Jim and probably Brenda because he knows you won’t put up with it.
Another thing I grew up with, is the idea that horses need other horses for company. Well my pony likes meeting other horses. But when she comes home she does not want them. She's in a stable behind the house and she knows where I am. I think the important thing is to check they are sleeping properly
The horses were working well and look good. Glad you got to work on your hay and thanks for explaining more about the process and how training becomes part of that as well.
Duke and Earl, looking so fine in their new harnesses! Straight stalls, boxed stalls, it all depends on the owners and their horses. I have seen your horses are so comfy in the straight stalls and I think they like being closed in, like a cat curled up in a small box.
Jim I have had box stalls and I tore them out and made standing stalls. It took the horses a little while to get used to them , but I can tell you standing stalls or box stalls are a human preference , the horses could care less !
Love the new collars & they look very nice with the harnesses. Duke was surprisingly calm when you put that collar on him, wow, he just went with it. Have a great day
Jim I agree with you on the stall thing. When you have concrete walls inside they stay cooler than the outside. And I have a concrete block shed for my horses and they stay in there all day. And go out in the cool of the morning and evening. Thanks friend
Jim as I've said in past I'm not a horsey person ( never having owned one) but I do remember seeing videos in the past where the collar was put on widest part at the top, then turned 180% once over the ears.
You’re young horses are very well trained,I love them à lots bravo to both of you for alls your patience and great works with them, have a very nice day see you in your next video.
Your hay rake looks & sounds exactly like the one my dad (and I) pulled behind his massey ferguson tractor in the 70s & 80s in MO. Thanks for sharing your farming methods & horses & wife & all. Appreciate you so much! Hot n high humidity in MO for last few days. Looking for some relief for all of us soon. Thanks again!
Those harnesses are beautiful! Brenda, you crack me up! My cows were that way, you would let them out on a hot day, they would go down by the creek and lay down under the shade tree, when they're doing that they're not making milk! So, no matter how much you wanted to get to the hay field, I always got the cows, put them in the barn, turn the fans on, give them hay, and they were comfortable, because they would be lying down chewing their cud, that's a happy cow! Some days, when it was hot, I just left them in the barn!
We always had both box and straight stalls. Never saw a difference with the horses. Dad always had the drafts in the straight stalls. Easier to harness the horses right in the stalls. Thank you for this channel. My dad loved his work horses. He always said he liked when they farmed with the horses before they went to tractors. He would have loved to watch this channel too if he was still with us. Lost his last Belgian 2 years ago. I have 2 Haflingers.
What a handsome team all hitched up in their new harnesses! Mighty fine horses you've got Jim and Brenda! I'd never heard of Suffolk Punch breed until you got Duke and Earl. I'm in love with the breed now!!!! They are such good tempered horses!❤ Smart too! I think they'd be really fun to ride. Wish you and Brenda had saddles so you could go riding together!! Hope y'all get some relief from the extreme heat soon. Down here in northeast Tennessee, we are supposed to be in the upper 90s (possibly 100 by weekend) for about a week starting today. Just remember to stay well hydrated yourselves and the horses too. I'd say Duke and Earl will need long drinks of water back at the barn! Have a wonderful weekend!😘
Jim's first saddle was a seat behind the hames! I agree riding them would be quite an experience, but harness horses develop their backs differently, at the trot they post you to the sky!
You folks just keep up what you're doing. Remember, that's why they make chocolate & vanilla. On a more serious note, how much do the new harnesses & collars weigh? I was just wondering. Peace ✌️
We live in the desert in California and we get over a 110° in the summer. One thing we do to work with our horses is to wait until sundown, before it gets dark, to do anything with them. It's normally cooler at that time and it's easier to do what we need to do. We make sure they get a nice cool shower afterwards Please make sure you both are drinking a whole lot of water with your heat. We always carry around a bottle or insulated cup with us when we are outside working.
Box stalls ? To me your magnificent, sweet, calm, gentle, responsive to your presence when called and drop dead glorious horses, say everything anyone needs to embrace your position of straight stalls. I too would only consider box stalls. Not any more because your houses say it all to me. Brenda, you keep those horses standing at their very best. They look excitingly gorgeous to me. Jim any criticism regarding how you live your life is (again to me) another person's personal opinion. You and Brenda have become very important people to many of us. No disparagement from us. Also 100,000 subscribers rings a giant bell in your favor. Brenda, please have as ALL over for dinner real soon, OK? X O Claire
And yes, that collar will come over the horse or mule head if the back of the harness is missing. My neighbor used the bare minimum harness on his mules. After one disaster of collars hanging from the reins, I learned to hold the mules by the bit rings to keep their heads up when backing.
Lol, Brenda,, crouper above the pooper. Lol.. I had a Welsh mare that went nuts with a crouper, so I worked her without one, made it a little crazy trying to keep the harness correct.
I remember when you bought the two colts. They have become so handsome and well trained. The ignorant comments about stabling is out of order the horses are so happy with their life. If it is good enough for the kings horses and many others then it is preference.
With the heat and humidity right now, it might help the new harnesses to give more (sooner rather than later). 😉😊 Like boots and shoes will stretch Boys look stunning 🤩
Jim, your work is excellent, and your horses are very well looked after, criticism doesn't matter, there will always be someone to criticize especially those people who don't understand the subject, I have horses and yours are examples of care, big hug. João Rockett Brasil.
It's Amazing how far these Horses have come, I remember when you first bought them, they weren't even halter broke, you have done an amazing job training them, great video, be well and be safe, 38:47
Lady & little June!! So sweet to catch a glimpse!!! 💖 Those are really sharp harnesses. With the sweat they'll put out, they may form to them rather fast!! Enjoyed watching you raking! 💕
I thought that hay looked like it was making some good windrows. Well, I went to town today and stopped at the post-office hoping to find my new hat. But no luck, hopefully it will get here next week. Another interesting video. Thank you
Those people commenting on straight stalls are... I have a 30x30 log barn log floor cedar shingles. 1940's or earlier and in great shape. One side straight stalls for 3 teams and a manger the whole length of the barn. Wood boxes in each corner for oats. Can u image how much manure has been forked out of that barn. Two horses lay down beside each other no problem!!
Straight stalls are great and teach horses patience and how to get over. We had some that didn’t even need to be tied and they would stand in their stalls. Jim you’re doing great. Don’t listen to all those negative people that think they know everything.
Abraham Lincoln said, “you can please some of the people some of the time , but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.” Jim gives the horses his best, thats why they are so calm and obedient. Duke and Earl looked magnificent front and back in their new harnesses, beautiful.

Thanks for saying thank you! 😀

In the South, we put the horses outside at night and inside during the hot days during the summer.
I agree my horses were out at night and in through the day out of the flies . Except when they were working in the daytime.
I have to say, you treat your horses very well. You do right by them always. Put on your Teflon suit and let those negative comments roll right off...your method works for you and your horses..and it's a great method, to boot! Love you both and your animals..❤❤
The younguns sure make a fine looking team ! That was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Duke and Earl look great in their new harness . Snazzy !
The young team is doing so well under your tutelage. 😊❤️
Watching those boy's come into their own is a pleasure.
For the most part, horses and dogs for that matter, are reflections of their owners. If you want to know how a person truly is, look no further than their animals. You are good people.
Your horse (or dog) is a mirror of your soul.
Duke and Earl looked magnificent front and back in their new harnesses, beautiful, you are gentle with them , they are so trusting of you Jim,

Duke and Earl looking sharp ‼️
Wow , those are fancy. I hope Duke and Earl know how good they are looking.
Congratulations on your 100K subscribers , commitment and patients gets it done . Careful coaching brings forth the confidence and confirms the suggestion is safe to take on board .
Duke and Earl look great together and the new hartnesses look great
Those stalls are perfect...my first Olympic HORSE started in a straight stall. Regards!!!
That span of Suffolk surely looks good together
The two youngsters, Duke and Earl are turning into fine horses. Nice watching their progress the past few years.
You need one of those large floor fans to pull air in from one opening and out the other. I've seen them in other barns. It really helps to have moving air.
Flies hate a breeze also. Win win.
beautiful pair,,great job on turning sharp corners, and thank God for a little cloud cover..super video and fun to be with you.friends,,c/ s
Duke and Earl look royal in their harnesses. Good luck with baling before the rain.
Jim and Brenda, you have a wealth of knowledge about horses, farming, logging, working hard and the importance of God and family! I'm thankful you're taking so much time and work to share this freely with us. I love telling people we're related, and am truly thankful for you both! 😊
Thanks for allowing to see all you do on your farm!!! Be blessed!!!

Duke & Earl are looking good in their shiny new harnesses 👍
Make Jim a Slab Peach pie! Just spread the pie dough out on a cookie sheet with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon like a Pop Tart! Good stuff!

It's obvious you love and care for your horses. They have it made. 😊
Jim your stalls are just fine over a hundred thousand people seem to be ok with them.
Duke and Earl, looking so fine in their new harnesses! Straight stalls, boxed stalls, it all depends on the owners and their horses. I have seen your horses are so comfy in the straight stalls and I think they like being closed in, like a cat curled up in a small box.
Wow that team was so chill. Jim didn’t even tie them up when he hitched onto the rack or ask Brenda to hold them. Great training.
The photographer does such a great job.
The little dog gets in the video so much - cute.
Enjoyed the video! Hay looking good & appreciate discussion on new harnesses.
Ignore the negatives & carry on.
Duke & Earl Looks So Handsome with Their Harness & Bridle's On!!!!
I love these Beautiful horses. Again, Brenda Thank You for filming.
Congratulations on your CZcams 100,000 subscribers!

those people should just keep their opinions to themselves. Keep doing what you are doing, the horses like it.
i think You do great with your animals....
Nice one🤩🤩🤩🤩Happy watching
Hay sounds good. I usually go by the sound of the hay to know if it's dry enough.
Just keep doing it your way Jim! It works for you and your horses! Who cares what anyone else says! From down in Georgia
Wow the boys did great be careful in that heat please. I know you know Brenda you are a nurse too, but just had to say it. Lol peace and love ❤️
I would recommend that Jim and Brenda where a wide brimmed straw hat working in the open hay &/or crop field and in the vegetable garden as well.
Skippy is laying down on that cool concrete.
Jim as I've said in past I'm not a horsey person ( never having owned one) but I do remember seeing videos in the past where the collar was put on widest part at the top, then turned 180% once over the ears.
ohhh wow dad said,,yes
You’re young horses are very well trained,I love them à lots bravo to both of you for alls your patience and great works with them, have a very nice day see you in your next video.

We live in New Hampshire and it has been so hot here too. So humid you can hardly breath. Severe thunderstorms last night helped a little.
What a smart looking team they are! Looking forward to seeing more of them together.
Them colts are so calm for young animals i like them,
Nurse humor. Love it. I'm the same. And that's really tame.. "the crouper goes above the pooper" 😂😂😂😂😂
thanks for your videos you guys! And just ignore those people, your horses appear to be healthy and happy.
Thank you for sharing, they do work nicely together.

Brenda great job braiding Baron's mane! I don't blame the horses for wanting to be in the barn those darn flies are relentless, poor things.
Your horses look very happy and well care. ❤Love watching your channel. 🇿🇦
Because of the heat, they were probably walking a little slower,in my experience horses are always more energetic in cooler weather.
I will pray for all of you.
YOU will always have critism . Just keep doing what YOU DO

Wonderful update and some excellent footage from unique angles, thanks for the video.
I enjoyed this video and how the younger team are working well together.
Wow! They look like they belong on the cover of some fancy horse magazine.
Fine looking hitch especially in the new harnesses❤

Watching the hay roll out of the rake is fascinating. I can't help but marvel at the person who figured out how to build that contraption
sweet boys
Lol, Brenda,, crouper above the pooper. Lol.. I had a Welsh mare that went nuts with a crouper, so I worked her without one, made it a little crazy trying to keep the harness correct.
I am remember 95 deg days in the hay fields. Back in the day
Get up next to the roof in the barn. Then we will talk about Hot😂😂
Like boots and shoes will stretch
Boys look stunning 🤩
Jim, your work is excellent, and your horses are very well looked after, criticism doesn't matter, there will always be someone to criticize especially those people who don't understand the subject, I have horses and yours are examples of care, big hug. João Rockett Brasil.
i was so glad when my dad obtained a side delivery rake no more me on a buck rake
It's Amazing how far these Horses have come, I remember when you first bought them, they weren't even halter broke, you have done an amazing job training them, great video, be well and be safe, 38:47
we alllll agree
They're your horses and you take Great shape
Duke and Earl look handsome in their new harnesses and collars.
My Grandfather never had anything other than box stalls in West Virginia. My Uncle did the same.
Lady & little June!! So sweet to catch a glimpse!!! 💖
Those are really sharp harnesses.
Thank you
They are certainly very good natured horses. How can this breed be threatened? Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
The Heat Dome reached you. I've been reading about it. Stay hydrated!
Don’t listen to all those negative people that think they know everything.
are you planning to taking Duke and Earl into the woods this winter
